Why I only put my girls in modest swimsuits

I'm a mom of two little girls and believe very strongly that girls are supposed to look, dress, and act like little girls and not teenagers. I actually used to work for Children's Protective Services and learned that unfortunately there are a lot more people out there that mean your children harm than you think. Dressing your daughters modestly not only teaches them to respect their bodies, but it also makes it less likely that someone will view your child as an object of attraction.

Here are more reasons why girls need modest swimwear:
  • 1In today's culture, people snap pictures with their cell phones and post pictures to FaceBook in the blink of an eye. They also take videos and upload them to YouTube. If you're daughter is at a public pool, beach, or lake, you must consider the possibility that their picture may end up on the internet. You definitely don't want them in a revealing swimsuit that may entice predators to view them as more than just a child.
  • 2The more skin that is covered, the more skin that is protected by the damaging rays of the sun. This not only protects against the pain of sunburn, but also helps prevent skin cancer years down the road.
  • 3Teaching girls to dress modestly teaches them to respect their bodies. The message stays with them as they grow and as teens they tend to feel they have more to offer the world than just their bodies.
  • 4Modest swimsuits stay put. I've seen many a little girls playing and splashing at the local pool or water park in a bikini, only to have their tops slide up or their bottoms fall off.

Even though a one piece covers way more than a bikini, I simply think some one pieces look too grown up for little girls to wear.

    Great topic! It has been a challenge to find modest swimsuits for my 4 girls. I like to buy them board shorts to wear over a one piece suit, but they can be hard to find. Seems you can find tons for boys but all the girls shorts are really short.
