Body Modification

Ranked #10,443 in Fashion & Beauty, #190,092 overall

A big trend today in America would include tattoos and piercings. Young and old are doing it. Body modifications have become a popular industry.

Body modifications started as tribal art in Africa, South America, Asia, and Australia with lip plates, ear plates, and cheek rods. They had different meanings and significances. Tribe status and rite of passage ceremonies are two reasons for primitive modifications. Warriors, puberty, marrage, etc. all are considered rites of passage.

Body modifications today have changed greatly since the more primitive times, but the procedure has not. The only thing is we are more sanitary today, than the earlier tribes.

You should remember the safest place to get a body modification is at a tattoo shop if it involved piercings, tattoos, brandings, scarification, etc. Or at a doctor's if it involves implants and surgeries.

Healing Piercings

After getting a body modification, you need to take care of it properly in order to prevent infection. With many mods, something foreign is placed in the skin or through it, such as with tattooing and piercings. This can readily be rejected by the body.

With piercings you need to clean the piercing daily, once or twice. The best cleaning solution for piercings or any kind (ears, facial, genital, etc) is saline solution. You can purchase a saline solution at many stores to include grocery stores, pharmacies, and other stores like Target and Wal-mart.

You need to soak the jewelry and the piercing for 10-15 minutes. If you have a belly piercing, you can put the saline in a cup and lay down with the cup over the piercing, and for ear piercings you can use cotton balls.

You want to stay away from anything that contains the slightest bit of alcohol in it. It is too harsh for any type of piercing. Peroxide, as well, should be kept far from piercings. These items can over dry a piercing.

Ointments should not be used as they tend to clogg the piercing, preventing it from getting oxygen.

Too much cleaning can be detrimental, so stick with once or twice a day.

Healing Tattoos

As with tattoos, you can use a non-scented lotion. A&D, or corn huskers. Gently rub the lotion on the tattoo two or three times a day. You, also, need to clean the tattoo with a gental hand soap.

Keep all tattoos away from sunlight, as it will greatly damage it.

If you have any questions about healing and taking care of fresh mods, you need to consult the artist that did the mod.

Tattoo Aftercare

Right after getting a tattoo, you must consider tattoo aftercare, as it is very important to best preserve your tattoo.

Tattoo Removal

Tattoos were thought to be permanent, but with this day and age, one can have them removed via laser surgery, dermabrasion, and various fade away techniques.

Tattoo Removal

Just remember that tattoo removal will more than likely cost you more monetarily than the actual tattoo did. But, you must weigh your costs and benefits. If you think that paying the money will benefit you more having the tattoo removed versus leaving it there, then by all means do what will make you truly happy.

Tattoo removal can be painful- many recall that it feels like being hit with rubberbands.

I never modified my body permanently, and only temporarily with digital age makeup, of which some things can be done by stenciling with an airbrush.

There are stencils for belly button art, face, neck, and hair even. It can be fun for the day without a permanent job and it is handy for attending costume parties or if you are a thespian with a flair for theatre makeup. You can do it yourself like a professional has done it with an easy kit.

Anyhow not sure IF you are even interested but it's in the last section on my page at health-and-beauty-for-women and has a video to go along with it.
