- Print out the no-frills Squidoo Modules List
- Download the list as an Excel Spreadsheet

My Favorite Squidoo Modules: A List

1The humble Text/Write module does it all: text, graphics, even HTML & CSS when you want to get fancy.
2The Black Box module provides a striking background to emphasize a point. It forces me to be brief.

3The Guestbook can be so much more! Solicit all kinds of comments, from feedback to lightbulb jokes.
4The Video module's versatility -- and size -- make it a lot better than the older YouTube vids module. Don't get 'em mixed up.

5Link Lists send readers to related content, and give you a space to comment on each link. Links also earn a tiny lensrank boost with every click!
6The Featured Lenses module is a great way to get people to other lenses -- yours or someone else's. Sometimes I build a better featured lenses module when I need to show lenses in a certain order or more than 5 at a time.

7RSS: Add Your Blog is so useful: it can feature not only blogs, but anything with an RSS feed.
8I don't always drink beer sell stuff on my lenses, but when I do, I use the Amazon Spotlight Module.

What's this "content is indexed" gobbledygook?!
Search engines crawl the web, examining what's on each webpage. Then, when people search for words like "sprockets" or "green tomatoes," they send visitors to webpages which talk about "sprockets" or "green tomatoes."
Search engines can't search everything, though. If a computer script generates content as you view the page, search engines may not see it. Most Squidoo modules are indexed, but a few, like "Add your blog" and "Twitter Storm," pull in data when you view the lens, and can't be indexed.
People who are experts at search engine optimization like to know what content is indexed.

All About Plexos
This module is a "Text List Plexo." Plexos are Squidoo modules that let visitors submit items and/or vote on them. You can change the "Submissions" settings to decide whether and how people can add items.
Under the "Display" settings, you choose whether to have just the headlines/titles, or the headlines/titles followed by a short description. Plexos for Amazon, Flickr and YouTube have additional display options.
Plexos are a little quirky. Here's some things to know about them.
Link Plexos are "DoFollow"
Search engines like pages with links to them from RELATED pages-- it suggests that the destination page is worth visiting! Search engines only follow "DoFollow" links, however. Problem: Link Plexos (not Guestbooks) are "DoFollow", so they are targets for spammers. It's best to set Link Plexos so that submissions aren't shown until you approve them.0 points
HTML doesn't work in Plexos.
<b>No bold.</b> <i>No Italics.</i> <a href=http://www.someplace.com>No links</a> in description fields like this one.0 points
500 Character limit
This is the description field. It cuts off at 500 characters. Usually this doesn't matter, but if you're asking people to brainstorm ideas and vote on the best ones, you'll need to warn them.0 points
Special Characters behave erratically.
You know the hearts, diamonds, bullets, and other characters I use as dividers on my lenses? They're special characters (Google 'HTML entities'), and they're often very useful! But they're quirky in Plexos. If you edit the Plexo, or sometimes even Just Because, the codes may get spelled out. (This is why some Amazon Module descriptions have &quo; for double quotes.)0 points
