Thanks for the great info. I am wondering--if you are fortunate enough to be blessed by a SquidAngel--which I was today!!!--is there a module to put that on the lens or do you just put your own using a text module or big picture module or something. I am asking because I see lots of lenses that have their 'blessed by an angel' advertised on their lenses. Thanks for your help and great info. Happy Easter@
  • Greekgeek Apr 7, 2012 @ 2:36 pm | delete
It's the featured lensmasters module. Happy Easter!

Thanks for sharing. But I have one question: which module is the best for the earnings form music? Amazon on itune?
  • Greekgeek Mar 29, 2012 @ 2:52 pm | delete
Amazon. The iTunes module has a bug so that it autoplays when people arrive on a page via certain browsers. We've been trying to get Squidoo HQ to fix that bug for years, but in the meantime, Amazon is better.

Greetings Greekgeek! I see that you are an expert in Squidoo modules and I would love to ask a question regarding certain type of modules.

After browsing through one of a random lens in Squidoo [http://www.squidoo.com/one-piece-wallpapers]. I found out that all the wallpapers are neatly organised within a text module. Do you know what kinda html code he uses to organised all of the wallpapers shown in equal width and height? I am really lost and couldn't find the html code myself. I hope you could acknowledge me. I'm not sure what is Squidoo's rule about posting a lens URL on another lensmaster's guestbook. If it is not allow, feel free to delete my comment, no hard feelings there. But I hope you could still let me know how he arrange the wallpapers. Thanks in advance.... Stay excellent! :D
  • Greekgeek Mar 29, 2012 @ 2:18 pm | delete
j_suited: when trying to figure out what HTML code someone used on their lens, the easiest way is to choose "View Source" from your web browser and examine the HTML code for yourself.

That will show you what that lensmaster did (or you can ask him what HTML code he used to do it, since it's his lens. ;))

Sorry for the tardy reply -- I kept trying to get around to investigating your question, but since it doesn't have anything to do with my lenses and I've got about 100+ comments a day to reply to, I don't think I'm going to have time to get to this. ;)
  • digitaltree Dec 27, 2011 @ 2:57 pm | delete
This Lens answer my question as to where the quiz module was, why is this Lens not in first place in search for squidoo quiz module, i don't know it should be.
  • Thimblepod Dec 18, 2011 @ 9:58 pm | delete
I GreekGeek, I have seen you round HP lately! Is there a module for donations for yourself? ( I am not sure what it is called but thought I saw it on a lens a few months ago..)
    Thanks!
  • Greekgeek Dec 18, 2011 @ 10:16 pm | delete
I'm a little caught up in Christmas --also, alas, I only get 5-10 cents a day on HP, as opposed to $20 a day on Squidoo.

Squidoo's Donations module only lets you set up donations for charities that are partnered with Squidoo. However, if you have Paypal, there is a way to add a Paypal button to a Squidoo lens by putting the code into a Text Module.

This is by TheFluffanutta who has a lot of helpful Squidoo tutorials:
    http://www.squidoo.com/add-paypal-buttons

I haven't tried it, but if Fluff says it works, it works. :)

Very useful thank you. Even though I'm not new to Squidoo and have been here for 7 months, I still am not familiar with all the modules.
  • pablina Oct 22, 2011 @ 11:12 am | delete
Awesome lens. I checked out a few modules that I was unaware of. It's a shame that some of the modules listed are broken though. Hopefully Squidoo will do something about that soon.

Very helpful lens! I'm trying to understand the "Lyrics lib" module. I've read the description but I can't quite get a handle on it. Do you know of any examples of lenses that have used it? Thanks so much!
  • Greekgeek Sep 27, 2011 @ 5:36 am | delete
I've never seen a lens use the Lyrics lib module. It's one of Squidoo's original batch of modules, which included a number of extremely random widgets. At the time, SquidHQ wasn't sure how Squidoo was going to grow and evolve, so they were inviting anyone and everyone to program and submit modules. I have a suspicion that this one may have been created by a canny artist in order to self-promote his own music.

In sum: It's a fluke, and I can't imagine what use it would be. But who knows, maybe somebody's used it. :)
  • Greekgeek Sep 27, 2011 @ 5:39 am | delete
Update: and in fact, I see it's now a "dud" module: it no longer works. I need to take a week off and re-test each and every module; some of them have stopped working since I last did so over a year ago.

Can you help me with this question I have. I'm currently looking for the name of these module I find in some lens. It's like a number list with the numbers 1, 2, 3 on the side. The module could be found in "Squidquest - Squidhauntings lens with the module title "The Rules"

    Thanks for your help! :D
  • Greekgeek Aug 27, 2011 @ 1:09 pm | delete
It's the Text List Module. Add it, then edit it and choose the "BIG NUMBERS" option. :)
  • WorkitSmart Aug 26, 2011 @ 3:48 pm | delete
Up by my 'Level' there was a little script from Squidoo talking about putting ads in the sidebar. For the life of me, I cannot find the module for that.

    Any suggestions? Thanks, Dee
  • Greekgeek Aug 26, 2011 @ 7:31 pm | delete
Ah, I need to update this lens again! In your workshop, in the sidebar, in the upper righthand corner are two toggles: Workshop Tools and Manage Widgets.

Click Manage Widgets to be given access to a new set of controls: this lets you put a few things in the sidebar. One of them is a mini Amazon Spotlight, much like the Amazon Spotlight module, except it appears in the sidebar of your lens up near the top of the page as a tasty treat for "click without reading much" visitors. Good luck on hooking a few. :)
  • WorkitSmart Aug 26, 2011 @ 7:36 pm | delete
well, whata you know? All this time I never noticed the Widget tab.. Thanks for the scoop. :)

  • GetFactsnotHype Jul 8, 2011 @ 1:15 pm | delete
The ArtbyUs link to a module highlights another lensmaster at ranking 275k and with one lens that has not been updated - is this a typo or did you mean to do that? I was wondering because I was going to check that out. Just FYI.
  • xanderlih Jun 30, 2011 @ 11:22 am | delete
Your html for a new line is not correct under "Tip: Force a blank line" The code as given would invalidate the html any page or lens it was on. There are two issues. One, you didn't close the p tag. Second, that's not how to force a new line. Use the that's an open angle bracket, 'br, space, slash, closing angle bracket. To create a new line with visible border use the tag, exactly as just described but with hr.
  • Greekgeek Jul 2, 2011 @ 9:57 pm | delete
    Thanks!

Squidoo's approach to HTML is a little... quirky. Not all HTML works. But apparently <br> DOES work now (I used to have problems with Squidoo discarding it).

Alas, &;lt;hr> is not one of the tags Squidoo recognizes.

How did I miss this extremely helpful Squidoo TIps page from you, GreekGeek? There are a TON of modules I have yet to try myself, but didn't know what they did. Wonderful and very helpful list. I printed off the 'No Frills' list for 'ready-reference' as I'm currently mentoring a 'brand new Squid' and wanted to suggest a couple modules that would enhance her latest lens. Searching for that information to remember the exact name of each module, I found this list. Thank you, thank you! I shall now email her your link. For this terrific list, and for all you do in helping all of us here on Squidoo with your "Squidoo Tips" lenses, I am pleased to be able to leave a ~~SquidAngel Blessing~~

  • dagsmith Nov 15, 2009 @ 9:16 am | delete
Awesome lens! Thanks for updating this. I think it's more a Squidoo Tips than a How-To category - but as an angel for the Squidoo Tips category I am biased! 5**** and a blessing!
  • Greekgeek Nov 15, 2009 @ 11:39 am | delete
You are very right. I am not sure why I made this lens in the How-to category a year and a half ago, but at any rate, I have put it in its proper category now! And thank you VERY much for the blessing!
  • ChapelHillFiddler Nov 15, 2009 @ 6:30 am | delete
Staggering amount of work. I've already put it to use - I didn't know about the delicious module. I have a blog (Caray, Caray!) where 30 people are recapping telenovelas and we use delicious to index our site, so I put the module on my telenovela lens. A funny quirk: when I put in our user name (we all use caray) and one of our tags, the thing warns me, "Sorry, no such tag," but if I ignore it and publish anyway, it works fine. Thanks for all your labors. I'm going to refer to this lens often.
  • ChapelHillFiddler Nov 12, 2009 @ 8:35 pm | delete
I'm amazed at how much work you put into this. Are you procrastinating from writing a paper? :) thanks for helping us all out...
  • Greekgeek Nov 14, 2009 @ 1:17 pm | delete
I'm afraid so. I made this index 2 years ago and it got hopelessly out of date. It's been bugging me. Also I'm so close to Giant 100. It was time to get this thing usable again!
    Thank you. :)

Thank you for teaching all this information. I like the way you have everything laid out.

I can't believe my luck in finding your lens! I have been trying to make my first one for a few weeks now, but I have been stumped by the terminology. I am a new computer-user, and simple things (5 minutes, huh?) stump me. I am passionate about my topic and have been trying to figure out how to do what I want to do. I have the layout on paper, and now I hope I can translate it to a real lens. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!!
