Motion Graphics Software

Examples of software commonly used to create motion graphics.
Adobe After Effects

Cinema 4D
A 3D program with many optional modules, available for both PC and Mac. Currently the most popular software used to create motion graphics because it is cross-platform, highly user-friendly, and has many useful features for common motion graphics tasks.

Motion Graphics - Glossary

compositing - putting together two or more images, whether animated or still, often in such a way that it looks like the images were originally in the same environment together

demo reel - also called "show reel" - a collection of clips from longer animation pieces, edited together and usually set to music, which serves as a portfolio of animation

kinetic typography - a specific type of motion graphics animation where text is animated to sync up with an audio track (usually a clip of someone speaking or singing) in a clever and engaging way

mograph - abbreviation for "motion graphics" - also may refer to the Mograph module of Cinema 4D

motion tracking - the process of tracking moving objects and camera movements in a piece of footage, then using that data to composite new objects into the scene in such a way that they look as if they were filmed together in the same environment

post effects - any changes made to a work after the main content has already been filmed (or rendered, in the case of 3D animation) - e.g. color correction, motion blur

VFX - abbreviation for "visual effects" - graphical effects composited on top of live footage, such as explosions, fire, blood, smoke, etc.
