Monetising Your Introduction Module

Your Introduction module should be making you money. Squidoo introduced something called infolinks in 2009 which are the green hyperlinks you see over your lens if you don't choose to switch them off. Squids as a rule did not seem to like them and one of the requests was that they didn't position them in the introduction module, but further down on the lens. The response was that it wasn't financially feasible to turn off the ads in the introduction.

?What does that mean for us?

It's proof that the introduction is a potential gold mine when it comes to sales.

Let me give you an example you've written a lens on top baby gifts so in the introduction you write something like - I've included what I personally find are the best ten baby toys for under twos these include classics like 'sort and stackers' and educational toys such as the 'fisher price blah blah'. Make sure that the two things you mentioned are hyperlinked to go straight to the product you're selling.

If you're using an amazon module then you can hyperlink it to go to that module if you'd prefer.

If, however you're writing more of an informational lens about say David Bowie and you have another lens which is based on David Bowie's music then make sure that when you mention his music in the introduction you hyperlink to your other lens (or other website if you're using Squidoo to drive traffic elsewhere).

If you are writing informational lenses which are getting a lot of traffic then it pays to write a couple of sales lenses in that area if you can and capitalize on the traffic. Let's say that you had a lens on David Bowie (seeing as we've already used this example) and you're getting over 10,000 hits every week....but all you're making is a tier one payment. What I would do (and did in other niches) is make a lens on something like David Bowie T-Shirts and link from your info lens to the t-shirt lens. You'll be surprised at how much cross over traffic you can get. Also, the t-shirt lens is more targeted so you may find that you get traffic to that directly. You (should) also make sales with this lens :D

Don't forget to put your links into your introduction module to get more clickouts and hopefully these will also lead to sales for you.

You'll then need to take the idea further and branch out into other types of David Bowie memorabilia interlocking all of the lenses together.

! Don't go too crazy with the amount of links you put into your introduction or Google will think you're spamming. As with anything moderation is the key and I usually go with 2 or 3. A fellow successful Squid, Jeffry V actually posted his findings on Squidu and recommends no more than 2 links in your introduction.
