You won't know which income stream(s) work best for your blog unless you test. Don't assume: test!

Making Money With a Blog Requires these Skills

You can learn them as you earn, but you need to learn them.

Setting up a blog - a free one on Blogger will do to start with but you'll probably want a self-hosted blog before long. That means learning how to find and register a domain name, research and buy hosting, attach your domain to your hosting, and set up a blog on it.

Dealing with comments (and comment spam), trackbacks and pings

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) - how to write your content and set up your posts and pages so that both search engines and humans will love you

Coding and scripting related to your blog platform (CSS, HTML, PHP and others). You can hire this out, but you need to understand the basics to know what needs to be done.

RSS and Ajax feeds, syndication, and aggregators.

Social networking and bookmarking

Traffic statistics and analytics

Keyword research, tagging and categorizing.

Advertising (both context-related programs like Adsense and individually-sold ads)

Product promotion (your own products, affiliate products or both).

Internet marketing in general
