What Is A Work At Home Scam And How Do You Avoid Them?

This lens will guide you on what a work at home scam is and how and where to spot the work at home scams that are out there on the internet, what kind of work at home scams to watch out for, where to find good advice, and how to find a legitimate home based business that really works!

Are There Still Legitimate Work At Home Businesses Out There?

The answer is yes. But, first we need to address the scams. There are so many scams on the internet today that prey on people who are just wanting to make a living working at home. It makes me sick to think of the people who do these scams.

The scams to watch out for are the work at home data entry scam, work at home assembly scam, and stuffing envelopes at home scam. (Just to name a few). The people that run these scams make their money by trying to sell you something that really doesn't give you much information to go on. Once you pay the fee then you are taken to some page that gives you useless information, or information that is outdated. If they say you can make tons of money without working, then you can be sure that it is a scam.

Real work at home businesses take work, dedication and time to become a success. Just like any business. Just because you work at home and you are your boss doesn't mean there won't be any work involved. One thing you can be sure of is that if you practice all of these attributes as a work at home business owner you will reap the rewards 10 fold!

Squidoo This is a great way to make money from home and it is fun! You may not become a millionaire doing it but, you can make enough money to pay some extra bills or have a little bit more play money. You can also donate your money to your favorite charity.

If It Sounds Too Good To Be True, It Probably Is!

Beware of work at home businesses that say you can become rich overnight. It just does not happen that way. Don't believe that you can make big profits easily. Treat your work at home business just like any other business - it will require you to work hard, have good skills, good products or services, and have patience.

Remember that a legitimate company will be happy to give you information about exactly what you will be doing and for whom.

Always research your market. Make sure there is a market for what you are going to do as a home business owner. Claims that there are customers for work such as typing and craft making may not be true.

Get advice from people who review legitimate work at home businesses. Read about what the company is all about first, and what fits you the best.

Also, you can review the website yourself by going on Google and comparing results and read what is being said. If you see there are a lot of people complaining about a company & you notice a pattern of negative comments and complaints then you should probably avoid the company.

Use common sense and don't buy it if there are a ton of complaints.

But, don't believe everyone's complaints. Sometimes they might have not had the results they expected and it was no fault of the business it self. It could be that the person gave up and did not really try. And now they are mad and want to get revenge.

It can be tempting to try the latest "fad diet" or the latest "get rich quick" ad but, do your homework first before you jump in. Find out if it is real and then think to yourself "Do I really need this?" If you do those steps first and you still feel strongly that it is legitimate then by all means go for it!

For work at home jobs, ask how often are you paid and how you are paid.

Work at Home Jobs To Avoid

Assembly Jobs -Have you seen the make lots of money by assembling crafts? These types of jobs wont make you lots of money. What they will do is waste your time and money!

Data Entry Jobs - There are lots of listings for data entry jobs online. Usually they are positions where you have to post ads and you have to spend money posting the ad.

Processing Claims - For these kind of scams you have to purchase expensive equipment and software before they even consider hiring you to do these claims.

Stuffing Envelopes - Would you believe that there are still people saying that you can earn $3 or $4 per envelope to stuff them? The truth is, You can't. All major companies have postage machines which stuff, sort and meter mail.

Fake blogs, Fake ads, Fake work-at-home jobs and Fake Web sites - Don't believe everything you read. To see if the product or website is the real deal type in the website or product type in your google search bar the words "scam" or "complaint" next to the word you are searching for.

Here are a few other scams to avoid: (these are not related to work at home scams, but are ads that scam you. So, be careful.

The ever popular 'Free Sample' or 'Free Trial' of whatever product (usually weight loss pills etc.) and you only pay the shipping fee. ( I myself have fallen prey to these)

What they don't tell you is that every 30 days after they will send you the product again and charge you anywhere between $50-$100 dollars each time they ship it to you. Always make sure if you do fall for these scams to cancel the trial membership immediately or you wil have a mess on your hands.

Free Xbox scams The scam involves a banner ad saying that you have been selected as the winner of a free XBox, iPod, or other electronic gadget. Clicking this ad takes you to a webpage saying the same thing but, also asking for your debit card information so that the website can cover its shipping charges. Of course you never receive the item , and then random charges begin appearing in your bank account. Hmmm, sounds like Identity Theft to me.

I started an e-commerce store 8 months ago, and you are absolutely right, it does take time and a lot of hard work. I'd love for you to check out my lens on work at home scams and let me know what you think. I'm trying as well to help educate the masses and maybe save some people some headaches. thanks
