Whether it's a top up income, a full time occupation or as a back up income in these uncertain times, marketing on the internet can provide a very efficient way of generating multiple streams of income with little to no costs involved.
The hardest part for any new comer is to decide which affiliate program they should join. A great deal promise instant success and appeal to the potential affiliates emotional side but fails to deliver what it 'claims' can be achieved.

Challenges For Newbie Affiliates
- Too technical - programs that just assume you know how to knock up a website in 5 minutes flat and understand all the jargon that goes with it.
- Too expensive - advocating you throw hundreds if not thousands of Dollars at Adwords to test which campaign will work.
- Insufficient support - finding there's no one to ask if things aren't clear or you just need someone to talk to, to reassure you you're not alone.
- Most affiliate programs sound fantastic and sell the dream very well but unfortunately, statistics suggest 97% of these schemes turn out to be nothing but scams run by people who haven't even made any money on the internet themselves.

Selecting The Wrong Product
Many affiliates get drawn into choosing a product to market that they believe is'hot', that believe will sell well and that pays a large commission. They are so enthusiastic that this crucial part gets overlooked. It's almost impossible to second guess what appeals to others, so the best starting place is to start with a product that actually interests you.
Promoting something you are passionate about is so much easier than trying to promote an unknown.
When you've selected a product, take a step back and see what would be the best way to market it and what audience you are appealing to. Always have a plan.
Research, research and research some more. Check if there is a demand for your product. No point trying to sell sand to Arabs or icecream to Penguins is there?
Mistake # 2 Don't Spin Plates!
Spreading Yourself Too Thinly.
Many affiliate schemes are so easy to join it's really easy to get carried away with the excitement of it all and join up to several. This is a big mistake. The affiliate believes that this will increase their income when all this does is dilute their efforts and reduce their earnings.Joining too many programs only pose as distractions and cause confusion. Each program recommends it's own way of achieving success and they very often conflict. One will advocate investing in paid advertising, while another will advise against this tactic. Which one is right?
This is a sure way of reducing your earning potential. Rule of thumb is join a good affiliate scheme that pays around 40% commission, and stick with it. Stay focused and don't let the countless opportunities that are thrust at you take you off on a tangent.
Of course, once you start to reap real results and the kind of income you anticipated from promoting the product, you can then start to move on to the next project and turn that into another good source of income, and so on and so on.....
This isn't a race where the fastest always wins. Slowly and surely is often a better way. Affiliate marketing is here to stay and has a very bright future, so take your time, relax and do it right.

Never Buying The Product Or Service Yourself.
So many affiliates do this and it stands out like a sore thumb in their articles and promotions. The backbone to marketing is to satisfy the potential buyers questions and leave them feeling confident enough to buy. If you can't stir up emotions of desire for the product, they aren't going to buy. Simple as that! If you don't know your product then how are you going to convince anyone else to buy it?Own your product or service, believe in it, then focus on creating the desire.
Many programs offer a money back guarantee so there's no risk in you taking a test drive and making sure the product is worthy of your promotion. If it isn't all it claims then you can always get a refund and look for another product that's better suited and gives you confidence to promote with sincerity. You'll know your product well and know all it's advantages and disadvantages.

What Should A Good Program Offer?
If you're new to Affiliate Marketing, how can you decide which is the best program to join? There are several things you should look for before you join any affiliate training course.
- Easy to understand - clear and fully explained step by step instructions from start up to generating income, then how to maximise that income.
- Simplicity - it's not necessary to over complicate the process of earning money online, in fact it can be extremely easy. Many affiliates like you to believe it's hard to keep their competition down which is a narrow way of thinking as there's plenty for everyone.
- Not too technical - they should offer you a website or an alternative way to draw in sales. Constructing a website that looks totally professional is no easy task and can take several months to master, if at all. Website designers can prove an expensive option.
