Tips for doing online surveys and making money
I have been doing online surveys for a couple months now. I have been trying mulitple different kinds of online surveys, polls, and research groups. Below are links and reviews to the ones that have worked for me.
Here are some useful tips I have learned along the way:
1.) The first biggest tip I can give is to get different email accounts if you sign up for any of these websites. Although they are all free, you will receive a lot of spam email. I actually have two different email addresses that I use for these sites, not including my personal email address. Here are a couple of websites you can go to and get free email addresses:
Free aol email account
Free yahoo email account
Free gmail email account
2.) The next biggest tip I can give is to always keep track of what you are signing up for, which email address you used, and your login and password if you needed to create one. This is very important! Especially if you are signing up for the free trials and need to cancel it by a certain date. Its hard to remember which dates to cancel things by let alone which password you used! I have a notebook by my computer to keep track of all my information. I unfortunatley have already been charged for things because I cant remember which information I used!
3.) I also write down my information for all of the survey sites I sign up for and which email address I am using for that site. Especially since you dont want to use the same password for everything!
4.) I would also start an excel spreadsheet of how often you are completing surveys from the websites and what you were compensated. Start keeping track of what you are making a month and how much time you are spending. See if its worth it to you! With the way the economy is I personally will take anything I can get!
How do you get paid from these sites?

One of the most common is via check. You provide them with your name and address and they will send you a check. The only problem with going this route is it takes longer and sometimes the websites charge you a fee to have them cut you a check. Totally not worth it if you have to pay a fee.
The most popular way to get paid is through a paypal account. A paypal account is basically like an online bank account. You can use it to purchase items or have money sent to you or send it to someone else. It is very private and you dont have to give out any personal information to have someone pay you through it. I have mine set up so that I can trasnfer my earnings on paypal to my bank account. The only information I have to give out is the email address I used to set up my paypal account. Paypal

Vindale Research

I just found this great website that pays you to try out new products, services, and websites. You can make $5 to $75 per survey, and you even get to keep the products you review! The surveys are really easy, and the membership is FREE.
So how it works is you sign up and then they give you different survey opportunities or product evaluations. It starts off kind of slow, I think they want to see if you are really interested or not. At first I took every opportunity they gave me and now I have my choice of which ones I want to do. Most of these require a credit card, but not all of them. They always pay you for any costs you incur to try the products and then they pay you for your evaluation as well.
Example of how it works: The last product evaluation I did was for Emusic. I signed up for the free trial. I got 25 free songs to download and then I cancelled my free trial before getting charged. I filled out a survey about what I thought and that was it!
The downside to Vindale is the only pay you when your account reaches $50. Since at the begining it goes slower it feels like you arent getting compensated. I have always gotten paid from them and its always been on time. I definitley reccomend this site!
Opinion Outpost
![]()
Opinion Outpost has actually become one of my top choices as far as getting paid to do surveys. I have gotten paid from them four so far and have another check on the way. This also happens to be the only downfall that I can find with Opinion Outpost. There is no paypal. You can only get paid by check which takes 4-8 weeks to process. And although my first four came in less than four weeks, I generally prefer paypal. Their minimum payout is $5.
What makes Opinion Outpost better? They have 8 short profile surveys for you take upon signing up. You dont get paid to do them, but it helps them in figuring out which surveys you will qualify for. That way you dont waste your time starting a survey only to find out that you dont qualify or they have reached their quota for that demographic. There have only been a few times that I have actually not qualified for a survey through Opinion Outpost.
How frequently do you get surveys? It's rare to get one everyday, I generally get a couple a week. Pay outs range anywhere from $1-$5 that I have seen so far.
Here is what I have made so far from Opinion Outpost:
Opinion Points Balance Earnings Points Cash Value
Points Earned Since Joining 265 $26.50
Points Redeemed So Far 259 $25.90
Lightspeed Panel Research

Your Opinion Matters Here
"Which color looks better? What should they name it? What should the packaging look like? Is it better than what is already out there? Which features are important to you? How much should it cost? What should the commercial look like?
By taking the time to participate in Lightspeed Panel surveys, you have the power to let companies know exactly what you think. This helps you, the consumer, develop and improve products and services offered."
I really like this survey group. Its one of the only ones that I have found that is not based on a referal program. Infact you cant even refer people. They offer lots of different survey opportunities. They have lots of different ways to redeem the survey points that you earn. I actually just redeemed mine through my paypal account. But they have other products that you may buy using your points, and you dont need thousands of points. You can get anywhere from 50-10,000 points per survey. The lowest amount you can get from paypal is $5 and that costs 575 points. Really easy.
Here are all the surveys and points I have been awarded int he last six months:

I have recently decided that this is a great site for getting gift cards or using their gift cards to buy gifts.
Cashcrate
![]()
Cashcrate cut checks monthly (usually the checks arrive to your address on the 25th of each month and sometimes earlier). You are able to see at any time on your account information how much you are making and how it is increasing. You sign up for FREE.
You will never have to pay any FEES unless you decide to make offers where they require you to. I only fill out the free ones. There are tons of them. Some surveys/offers are long but some of them are so short that it takes you 1 minute to complete them. You choose what you want to do there.
You become eligible to recieve checks once you reach your minimum $10 payout. Make sure your address is correct so your checks don't get lost. The envelope will say KINGSIDE MEDIA, make sure you don't trash them thinking it is junk mail.
Try to refer people (friends and family) because you will be making a percentage of what they make. You will be also getting a $3 bonus everytime one of your referrals reach their minumum payout ($10)
I have been paid from this site multiple times. I like the site, it is definitley one of the best organized sites I have used. You can search through all the offers by "only free" or "only trial". They also have daily surveys that you can participate in that also give you money. They have just started a shopping section where you get money for making purchases. Every month they have competitions for money and prizes, one of the Moms that got me started on cashcrate recently won a competition and won $250!
Here are my earnings so far from cashcrate:
Payment ID Date Total
80741 05/16/08 $16.05
77967 04/17/08 $10.53
70719 01/16/08 $15.78
Inbox Dollars
![]()
Inbox dollars reminds me a lot of cashcrate. You can refer your friends and family to earn a percentage or bonus for getting people to sign up. They have free offers, trial offer, and the same shopping deal where if you buy you earn a certain percentage from your purchase.
Something different about them is they also pay you to play games. This part IS NOT FREE. You have to put money into an account they initially match what you put in to play but after that you have to add your own money if needed. You are playing with real money and can win real money from the games. You also earn money from Inbox dollars from the amount you are playing with when you play the games.
Something else different, is you get paid to read emails from them also. So far it seems like the more you read the more they send you. I have received at least one a day sometimes more. There is no timer for reading the emails, you simply open the email, click the link that says confirm readin this email and thats it. You can close it instantly.
You get a $5 bonus for signing up and you also get paid to take their surveys also. There is lots of ways to earn money on this website!

DealsNCash
This is the exact same thing as Hits4Pay just a different group. I figure its so easy I might as well just do both. This one pays up to .05 cents per website visit, so a little more than Hits4pay. You get a $5 bonus to sign
up! I have to say that so far I dont like Deals and Cash as much as Hits4pay. I dont get nearly as many paid website visits. But I just started this one and I havent gotten paid yet, so we will see how it goes.
My lot
![]()
My lot reminds me of Myspace. You create a profile add yourself to groups or pick topics that help define your interests.
For example they have a HUGE database to choose from. You can pick an icon for sister, mother, book lover, music lover, etc. Then you are updated by other people's discussions from these categories or you can create your own discussions.
Basically you are getting paid to blog on a Myspace type of website. I have not gotten paid from this yet. I believe its a $10 minimum. It is not based on referrals which is always nice. They pay you depending on the content of your blog and the length of your blog.
