Mod Monkey Baby Shower Inspiration Board

Found this adorable inspiration board for a monkey shower at Algy Dance. Lots of great ideas when Mom is expecting a baby boy! But remember monkey showers aren't just for boys any more.....keep reading for lots of ideas for baby girls too!

Monkey Baby Shower Invitations

After choosing a monkey baby shower theme, one of the first steps is to buy and send out invitations to your guests. The great thing about monkeys is that their round shape makes them easy to draw or create yourself. So you could make them utilizing brown construction paper and glue to create monkey faces or consider using yellow construction paper to make banana shaped invitations. Either way, you'll be able to use your creativity to make one-of-a-kind shower invites. That said, if you are like me (and probably most people), you can purchase fill-in invitations like the ones shown in the photo where you simply write all of the shower details like date, time, theme, address, etc. Finally depending on your budget, you could go all out and purchase fully customized baby shower invitations that are professionally printed with your custom shower info on a monkey themed background. Many online companies carry monkey designs so they are readily available for purchase.

Monkey Themed Tableware

You can purchase any of the above monkey baby shower tableware designs through Baby Gifts & Gift Baskets or choose from several other fun jungle or safari themes as well. They have over 75 different themes to choose from, but of course, this monkey theme is one of the best sellers.

Monkey Baby Shower Decorations

No monkey baby shower is complete without some wild decorations. Think bananas and jungle! Buy (or borrow) some silk palm trees to distribute around the room and then hang some coconut, banana, or clear string lights from the branches. You can hang plastic or plush monkeys from the ceiling and off the trees as well. Consider making some "vines" out of streamers so that the monkeys can swing around the room. For the table centerpieces, use a large baby shower diaper cake if you are serving buffet style. For sit down showers, consider small monkey themed diaper cakes like the baby shower centerpieces shown in the photograph (courtesy of Paper Pal Designs). By utilizing some construction paper with a simple design, they crafted amazing one-of-a-kind centerpieces for their event.

Monkey Baby Shower Food

When it comes to monkey themed baby showers, think banana themed foods. Things like banana pudding cups, banana bread, banana cupcakes frosted to look like monkey faces, bananas dipped in chocolate and frozen on sticks, banana muffins for a brunch shower are fun ideas. Or make a classic jello and bananas molded salad and banana smoothies for drinks. The banana food possibilities are endless.

For more substantial food, you can make sandwiches like the ones shown below that look like monkey faces or you can use a monkey shaped cookie cutter to make regular sandwiches (just use the cookie cutter to cut them into monkey shapes). The same cookie cutter idea can be used to make monkey shaped jello-jigglers as well.

And for snacks, how about dried banana chips or "monkey" mix which is trail mix with banana chips mixed in.

Monkey Sandwiches

Some creative cutting of wheat bread combined with peanut butter, bananas, and chocolate chips were the components for creating these adorable monkey sandwiches (photo from Thoughtfully Simple).

Monkey Cake Inspiration

No baby shower is complete without dessert and why not bring your theme into the baby shower cake? Here is some inspiration to get your creative juices flowing. Photo is courtesy of DessertLover2010 at Flickr - Monkey Baby Shower Cake Collage.

How To Make A Monkey Cake

This cake was made for a birthday, but if you add a pink or blue pacifier in the monkey's mouth, it would be perfect for a baby shower!

Monkey Cupcakes

Create these super easy monkey cupcakes right in your own kitchen. Bake up a batch of your favorite banana cupcake mix. Allow the cupcakes to cool and then frost with a tub of your favorite chocolate frosting. Use a vanilla wafer to make the area around the mouth and a vanilla wafer cut in half to create the ears. Finally use some black piping gel to make the eyes and nose and some red piping gel to make the monkey mouth. Adorable!

Monkey Baby Shower Games

You can purchase baby shower games with a monkey theme online (like the ones shown to the right from Baby Gifts & Gift Baskets). In addition, you can make up some of your own fun monkey games. Here are just a few of my favorites:

1) Barrel of Monkeys - Buy several sets of barrels and split shower guests into groups of 4 or 6 and have them play this classic linking monkey game. Award prizes to the winner of each group or have the winners square off in a final match to determine one winner.

2) Monkey See, Monkey Do - This game is played just like a classic Simon says game. Have the Mom-to-be or hostess call out or demonstrate things to do. Guests who fail to follow directions are out of the game. Keep going until one guest is left standing.

3) Banana Race - Break the guests into two even teams each with a bunch of bananas (have enough for each guest to have at least one banana). Guests must race from the start line with a banana in their mouth to put it in a bowl at the opposite end of the room (no hands). If they drop the banana, they must go back to the start line and start again. The first team to get all their bananas in the bowl wins.

4) Banana Eating Contest - See who can eat a banana the fastest.

5) Pin the Pacifier on the Monkey - Make a poster sized monkey and cut out blue or pink pacifiers. Blindfold the guests, give them a spin, and see who pins the pacifier closest to the monkey's mouth.

Pink and chocolate is the perfect color scheme for a baby girl - and this monkey theme is adorable! This inspiration board was put together by Drumroll Events.

Monkey Themed Baby Shower Favors

Many online retailers offer baby shower party favors that feature a monkey theme. Above you can see personalized mint tins, lip balms, lollipops, and gum featuring the mother's name along with the shower date (available from Baby Gifts & Gift Baskets). If you prefer to make your own favors, consider buying some small cellophane bags and filling them with monkey trail mix or dried bananas tied with a bow that matches your shower color scheme. You can even make your own little monkey themed stickers to put on the outside of the bags.

Monkey Themed Baby Shower Gifts

Baby shower gifts can sometimes be a challenge to buy. However if you know that the shower will be monkey themed, you should definitely consider buying a gift that has a monkey theme as well. Most likely Mom will be decorating the nursery with a monkey or jungle theme too so plush monkeys, monkey character blankets, or gift baskets overflowing with gourmet goodies for the Mom to be and monkey themed items for the baby are always great choices.
