Monopoly Junior - Monopoly for the younger crowd

Monopoly Junior - Fun for all ages

Monopoly Junior is the best of both worlds. It has parts of Monopoly - like getting property and handling money. But, the rules are simplified for the younger crowd. (Great for Kindergarten to Third Grade) The money numbers are smaller, and the time for the game is a lot shorter than the original.

The rules are simple enough that kids can usually play without their parents needing to play with them.

My daughter and I have enjoyed this game on many a rainy day.

Great
Hoping to instill our passion for games in our 2 young children, ages 4 and 6, we tried this game, wondering exactly how monopoly could be geared for kids. It is great! It has very basic rules that even young children can understand, and teaches them the basics of game playing and sportsmanship. They also love to play with the money! Get this game and have game nite at your house too! - anonymous

Anyone who is familar with the original Monopoly will appreciate this scaled down version. It contains all the fun of the original, with a couple of new twists. The smaller board & lower prices on property & "rent" allow for a quicker, less demanding game. And the added twist of being able to bump other players' ticket booths off a site allows for unexpected turns in the outcome of the game. The game is fun for ages through adult, not just the 5-8 specified by the box. Younger children who are not able to read or count money will need help, but our 6 year old had no problem grasping the concepts, and joining in on the fun even without being able to read the cards. - bjhorses

Monopoly Junior - rules

Every version of Monopoly Junior has slightly different rules. But, I have found that most of the rules end up being similar, just with a different name. For example, they all have a beginning location where you can get $2 when you pass it.

The rules for Monopoly Junior (no theme added) can be found on the Hasbro website

There is one rule that is in common with all the versions that I have played -- how the game ends. As soon as one player runs out of money, the game ends. The winner is the one with the most money when the game finished. This very rule is the main reason why Monopoly Junior is much quicker than the original version.

Most of the versions of Monopoly Junior are under $20?

It is a great gift!

Monopoly Junior Chance Cards

The cards in Monopoly Junior are well made. But, like any board game, pieces can get lost. Here are some chance cards you can buy to complete your Monopoly Junior set.

Monopoly, the original

LaraineRose says:

I grew up with the original monopoly game but I can see where a junior game would be great for young children.

BuckHawk says:

My family is always involved in marathon monopoly games!

Monopoly Junior

capriliz says:

Depends on the age of the youngest child playing the game. If you have young kids, it is too frustrating for them to play the regular game.

Pukeko says:

I like the Jr. version for play with kids. We can play in 20 minutes.

DesignedbyLisa says:

Although I still love the original, I love the fact that this game can be completed quickly. And, any game my whole family can play gets my vote.

Have you played this game? What do you think?

This version is great if you have younger children in your family. When the youngest ones reach a certain age, then get out the regular version.

What a great way to play for younger kids. My 8 year old granddaughter has to play original monopoly with an older partner. This sounds perfect to be able to play with her and she can play without a partner!
