So, how do you start playing the online game?
Register at www.monopolycitystreets.com. You will be asked to select a street before you can sign up. Use the Google map to look for one that has not been bought close to your home - or on the other side of the world. Once you have bought a street, you can start building property on that street.
Once you have spent all your money, you need to wait till the next day when you will receive rent on your streets and buildings. And then you can start buying again.
Of course the game is not as simple as that. You receive Chance cards at random intervals which are sometimes good and sometimes bad. You may be allowed to demolish someone else's property - or you may wake up tomorrow and discover yours are demolished.

My experiences with the game
I started playing just after the game first went live. At that time it was very slow and eventually those running the game took it down to improve speed and fix bugs. When the game came back online on Sept 18th, I started again.
I homeschool and so I am using this as a fun way to do 'geography' and 'business' with my own kids. I also teach a business class at my local homeschool co op and I have offered a $15 Target gift card to the student who ends up with the most money when the game is over at the end of Jan 2010.
I suspect my students will all do better than me ... particularly if they choose to make me the Target of the 'bad' Chance cards they receive. On my second day of play, I logged in to find one of my sweet girl students had demolished a buidling I'd erected the previous day. Ha! Failing grade for her!!
Chance cards have so far bought no 'bad luck'. I have received 3 bonus buildings which protect my streets from hazards and demolitions.
Update: 10/10/2009 At this point I am beating my students by MILES and I am on the local leader board. I am level 5 so can build very big skyscrapers. I hardly ever get Chance cards - but as 2 recent ones fined me astronomical amounts of money, I am not complaining.
Update 11/24/2009 I am still on the local leader board and still beating my students. I have sold my shorter streets and managed to buy 2 longer streets from other players and I found one!!
Tip #3
Look for streets in smaller cities. The larger ones are mainly bought up already.

Tip #4
Different buildings take up different amounts of space, so be sure to check if a smaller building can fit between bigger ones.

Tip #5
You can reverse the effects of a Hazard placed on one of your streets by bulldozing the hazard OR by putting a bonus building on that street.
Want to fly and visit the streets you 'own'?
