100 Rockin' Music Lenses On Squidoo

Ranked #2,443 in Squidoo Community, #214,076 overall | Donates to Squidoo Charity Fund

Squidoo lensmasters have great taste in music!

I'm pretty excited to share a list of some of the most creative music lenses on Squidoo by genre.

A couple of weeks ago I asked lensmasters to submit their best ideas for MonsterBoards. One of the first people to respond was veteran lensmaster Waxing_Lyrical. Rich is a great community leader, SquidAngel and Giant Squid who loves to write music lenses.

Together we complied a pretty interesting and diverse list of musical lenses on Squidoo. Being a huge music fan myself it was fun reading through the many musical genres that lensmasters have written about. While I am partial to 80's music I was very impressed by the great variety of 50's and country music we have on Squidoo.

Each of the lensmasters featured on this MonsterBoard will also get 100 points for writing about their musical passions. Got a favorite band or musical artist? Why not write a lens about why you love their music. Then post your music lenses on the Guestbook of this lens to share.

ROCK ON!

Waxing-Lyrical

Meet Rich!

My musical tastes go back to the late 1960s through the 1970s. Although I grew up in England, my first song memories come from the soul music coming out of the States at that time. Tamla Motown, Stax and the Sound of Philadelphia were big names back then and listening to songs by the likes of the O'Jays, Harold Melvin, Stevie Wonder and The Temptations were always a treat. At the other end of the spectrum, my collection of records started to expand with the sounds of British glam rock. In the 1970s, groups that many Americans bypassed like T.Rex, Slade, Wizzard and The Sweet satisfied my teenage need for something louder and more commercial. These days, however, if a CD hits my player, it's usually Adele or Bruno Mars that can be heard coming from the speakers. - Waxing_Lyrical on Squidoo

My kids have introduced me to the latest Alternative rockers, and I still listen to the bands from the 70's (The Who, Led Zepplin, Springsteen). And I can't help but wonder what John Lennon would have continued to create.
  • ronberry Jan 23, 2012 @ 1:47 pm | delete
Gotta go with the '70s - Grew up listening to Elton John, The Who, Eagles...those were the days!
  • cmadden Jan 22, 2012 @ 4:23 am | delete
I like music from most genres, but my favorites are folk and classical, both rather conspicuously absent from this list. Jodi_k may have the right idea: Part 2.
    Very nice lens.

The Don Francisco lens brought back great memories. He's an amazing Christian singer-songwriter. Another one (who I happen to have made a lens about) is Keith Green.

No classical? Or folk? Or jazz? We need a part 2!

I have two music lenses, one folk (http://www.squidoo.com/american-folk-musicians) and one, well, I'm not sure where PDQ Bach fits, but here he is (http://www.squidoo.com/pdq-bach

I was so excited to see my Mississippi Delta Bluesmen lens listed! I really like the idea of the Monsterboard. It's fun to be able to easily check out lenses on the genres I enjoy. (I've visited several and plan to read more.)
  • marciag Oct 15, 2011 @ 12:38 am | delete
I don't think my lens would fit it as I don't see a category for it for classical music. But anyway here is my lens for consideration:

Terrific list of music lenses -- something for every interest and era! :) My favorite is 'folk music' a.k.a. The Kingston Trio (whom I saw in concert many times and 'met' in person twice) and most all the folk groups of the late '50s and early '60s.

Awesome stuff! I'm glad to see you've got my beloved Pet Shop Boys up there. But where are the Bee Gees? ;)
  • Geeve Oct 14, 2011 @ 6:10 am | delete
Amazed that you haven't any classical music represented.
"andre-rieu-the-waltz-king" is a lens about the world's most popular performer, André Rieu and his Johann Strauss Orchestra.
I would also draw your attention to my "WOMAD" lens, which is all about the world music scene.
  • bdkz Oct 14, 2011 @ 7:47 am | delete
We'll have to do a "Part 2", there is just too much good music out there to cover everything on one lens : )
  • Not-Pop Oct 14, 2011 @ 7:54 pm | delete
I'd love to see blues and jazz on Part 2! But I'm thrilled that you included my Peter Gunn lens. Thanks so much to both of you.
  • artyfax Oct 14, 2011 @ 5:56 am | delete
Thanks very much, I was very pleased to see my lens, "UK #1's of 1969 added to this collection. Even after all this time I still find that the music of my youth is still my favourite listening. I am however, just beginning to listen to newer bands and artists as I approach retirement - is it me or is the music getting better again?
  • CardLady Oct 14, 2011 @ 4:15 am | delete
Thank you for including my Bobby McGee lens in this collection!
  • Stazjia Oct 14, 2011 @ 4:06 am | delete

My favorite genre is Classic Rock, mostly from the 1970's, but I also love Country, Latin, New Age and some Classical as well as World Music. One of my favorite bands is Premiata Forneria Marconi from Italy (http://www.squidoo.com/premiataforneriamarconi).
  • NAIZA Oct 13, 2011 @ 11:36 pm | delete
It really depends on my mood probably.. But I'm an all genre type of person when it comes to music. Though I must say I'm still impressed by the music from oldies but goodies genres. Awesome music lens collection :)
  • Sylvestermouse Oct 13, 2011 @ 11:10 pm | delete
Personally, I enjoy listening to a lot of different styles of music. I have learned to appreciate many different genres over the years. I am simply impressed by pure, natural talent whether instrumental or vocal. I always appreciate anyone who will take the stage, even if it is only in the shower :) Thank you for including me here. Music has always been an important part of my life.
