Best of Halloween SquidBoo Challenge 2011

Between September 1st and October 31, 2011, create 5 great new SquidBoo lenses to unlock a special achievement. You get a trophy, +100 SquidPoints, and a hug from the big guy, Frankenstein. The trophy is only available for unlocking during those 2 months. If you're too late, you're too late!

Rules: Your lenses have to be published in the Halloween category in the Holidays& Celebrations topic section for inclusion in the new HAPPYHalloween template and magazine. No gremlins allowed. If your lenses are empty or spam, or not on a Halloween topic, your trophy will be snatched back.

Once you make your 5 lenses and unlock the first trophy, you are automatically eligible to earn the highly coveted 2011 "King of SquidBoo" trophy by creating just 5 more Halloween lenses before October 31, 2011. Every lensmaster who creates and publishes 10 Halloween lenses by Halloween 2011 will get both trophies AND a featured spot of honor, right here on this Monsterboard, on Halloween Day.

Phew... talk about your bragging rights. This is monstrous!

We've discovered that tons of people come to Squidoo every year looking for Halloween stuff. Recipes, party ideas, jokes, scary movies, proton packs, DIY wizard wands, Lady Gaga costumes...

So we put together the new HAPPYHalloween magazine.and it's growing fast. It's half party trick (and fun theme for your lenses), half serious way to aggregate great Halloween content for the hordes of people who go looking for it. The ultimate Halloween index, if you will.

Point is, Halloween lenses get buckets of traffic around this time of year, they earn good royalties, and they're fun to make. So if you're here on Squidoo for fun or money, give it a shot.

Q: What if I already have tons and tons of Halloween lenses from previous years?
A: That's excellent, and way to go, high five, congrats and all that. But this is a new 2011 lensmaking project to challenge you to make 5 or 10 more great ones. Sometimes pushing yourself leads to surprising results. There's always something new to reach for. If you'd rather not make more Halloween lenses, to unlock a trophy or two, feel free to take a pass on this challenge.

Q: Why not Queen of SquidBoo? Man, you're so sexist. (As evidenced in that line right there!)
A: Because "Win King or Queen of SquidBoo" lacks a certain elegance as a phrase. And because we do tons of stuff that's woman-oriented. And because I don't really care about pronouns at all. And because I especially love how shows like Farscape and Battlestar Galactica and Star Trek have used "Sir" to mean man or woman, no difference, it's the honorific that matters, not the gender.

Q: Should I eat the homemade candy apple that guy gave me?
A: No.

Q: Why don't I get money if I win?
A: We didn't get money for bringing home straight A's in school, either. Or for getting picked as the Prom Queen. Or for finishing a marathon. Prize purses aren't a great reason for competing (even if a little extra pumpkin money is a nice result). Winning the accolades and recognition of the quality of your content, from thousands of your peers, though? Up to you if that matters.
