Take the scary out of "Monsters" with this wonderful book.

The Barefoot Book of Monsters!
Take a deep breath and enter a world of wacky monsters from near and far. The six stories come from different cultures around the world and are inspired by traditional folk tales.

This is a compilation of stories from cultures like Italy, South Africa, and Tahiti. The illustrations are colorful and the stories have messages of acceptance and appreciating diversity.

The Barefoot Book of Monsters both teaches us about the universal nature of fear, and about it's opposite--true courage.

Tips for Reading this Book with Your Child

Talk about the book cover with your child, read the title and author's and illustrator's names.

Do a "book walk" by asking your child what is happening on each page. This is an excellent exercise for beginning readers and great for vocabulary building. You will soon find them picking up this book and telling you about each story. After you have taken the "book walk" read the book to your child. You may want to break this book down due to the length of each story depending on your child's age.

Many children believe that there are monsters, even children in other cultures and countries. The Barefoot book of Monsters, are stories that highlight clever children and their encounters with rather endearing creatures. These tales empower children to take control of their fears and overcome them in a creative way. When young children are frightened by "monsters" is is often because they cannot separate real from pretend. So, talking and exploring monsters through books and learning activities helps them to express their fears and emotions.

It's making time for make-believe and letting imaginations run wild and free. Most of all, it's about using the power of stories to nourish the creative spark in everyone and strengthen connections with family, the global community, and the earth.

“Ask your child if monsters are real or make believe? Talk openly if there is any fear of monsters.”
