Monstrous Regiment Review
The story centres around Polly Perks who diguises herself as a boy inorder to join the Borogravian army. Her aim in joining the army is to find her brother.
Borogravia is seen as a bit of a backward, war mongering country who are fighting with pretty much all of their neighbours. They worship a God who keeps coming up with new ludacris abominations. Some of the abominations include, the sky, the colour blue, babies, etc.
The story follows Polly on her journey to find her brother, it shows how she trys to fit in amongst a regiment of boys. The enemy is hunting them and Polly and her fellow recruits must fight to survive, their only hope is in the form of their Sergeant.
Monstrous Regiment has a whole host of new characters but is also contains some old favorites including Sam Vimes of the City Watch. Also Sergeant Angua of the city watch puts in an appearance, so does William De'Word and even Death appears in the story.
Monstrous Regiment is one of Terry Pratchett's best, stand-alone, novels. It is classed as a stand-alone novel because it centres around characters who only appear in this novel. Sam Vimes is in the book but the story does not centre on him like in Guards! Guards! or Thud! so it is a stand-alone discworld novel.

A great line from Monsterous Regiment
'Well the lion is a big ol' coward, mostly. If you want trouble, you want to tangle with the lioness. They're killers, and they hunt together. It's the same everywhere. If you want big grief, look to the ladies.'
