Join the Squidoo Activists in Celebrating a Month of Thanks in November

A Month of Thanks gives lensmasters a chance to be thankful, raise awareness about hunger and make lenses to benefit hunger related Squidoo Charities.

The challenge is being done to help us realize that even in the midst of everything that is going on, we still have a lot to be thankful. The month of November, the month of Thanksgiving is a good time to stop, take a moment and give thanks.

Taking a little time to be thankful every day may help to shift your perspective. Counting your blessings instead of the losses and focusing on the positive aspects of life can help in shifting attitudes and life challenges.

Ready to see the winners? Jump to the spot with the winning lenses.

Participate in a Month of Thanks 

Make a lens. Write down three things daily for which you are grateful. Spread the word about the Month of Thanks, encourage others to participate and donate if you can.

This month-long Month of Thanks is reminder to be thankful is another charity lensraiser contest from the Squidoo Activists for Charity, hosted by your Generous Giant Squid, Comfortdoc.

We had a lot of great lenses submitted for a Month of Thanks and the hunger related charities, over 60 lenses.

The lenses ranged in topics from serious, like the winning lenses for a Month of Thanks, to heart-felt like Giving Thanks and Giving Back from Starving Artist (from Angelina) to "The Worst Lens Ever Made" (from Mortira).

How You Can Participate in a Month of Thanks 

  1. Make a Lens
    Create a lens to Benefit one of the Squidoo Non-Profit Charities that focus on hunger, famine relief or providing food to people in need. The lenses this contest benefits:
      * Action Against Hunger
      * Food for Everyone Foundation
      * Heifer International
      * Oxfam America
      * Planet Gumbo
  2. Be Thankful Each Day
    Record three things that you are thankful for each day during the month of November.
      * Write it in a journal.
      * Write it on a Post-it.
      * Post it in the Squidu forums.
      * Add it to the Predictions module here.
  3. Encourage Others to Be Thankful
    * Blog about it.
    * Post why you are thankful in the Squidu forums.
  4. If Possible Donate
    Not only can you make a lens (or two) for the Month of Thanks Charities, you can also make a direct donation from this lens.

Incentives for the Challenge 

In addition to knowing that you have make a lens to benefit a charity, all new lenses made by participants will be eligible for the incentives and prizes listed below.
    1st Place is Lens of the Day near Thanksgiving, a Month of Thanks badge, a limited edition Squidoo Sticker from Sticker Giant (seen at right) and the honor of being chosen.

    2nd place receives a Squidoo T-shirt, mug or hat, a Month of Thanks badge, a limited edition Squidoo Sticker from Sticker Giant and the honor of being chosen.

    3rd place receives a Month of Thanks badge, a limited edition Squidoo Sticker from Sticker Giant and the honor of being chosen.
All participants will get a Month of Thanks badge to display on their lens and their bio page.

Winners will be also announced in the Squidoo Activist Blog.

Note: Only new lenses will be eligible for the Month of Thanks incentives. All older lenses and converted are encouraged to be added.

The Squidoo Nonprofit charities chosen to be beneficiaries for the Month of Thanks are those that focus on hunger, famine relief or providing food to people in need.

The charities are listed in alphabetical order.

An international organization that delivers emergency aid and to people suffering from natural disasters or man-made crises.
The Food For Everyone Foundation
The Food For Everyone Foundation's mission is to teach and assist families everywhere to grow successful and sustainable vegetable gardens, and really enjoy the experience.
Heifer International
Heifer International is a non-profit organization whose goal is to help end world hunger and poverty through self-reliance & sustainability.
Oxfam America
Oxfam America is an international relief and development organization that creates lasting solutions to poverty, hunger, and injustice. Together with individuals and local groups in more than 120 countries, Oxfam saves lives, helps people overcome poverty, and fights for social justice.
Planet Gumbo
A Non-Profit Foundation, Planet Gumbo and their "Planeteers" provide hope and sustenance to folks in need by feeding the needy--body and soul.

How to Make a Lens for the Month of Thanks Challenge 

  1. Pick your favorite charity.
    * Action Against Hunger
    * Food for Everyone Foundation
    * Heifer International
    * Oxfam America
    * Planet Gumbo
  2. Make a Lens.
    Pick a topic that you are interested in.
    Make sure that your lens benefits one of charity above for at least 10%.
  3. Enter the Month of Thanks Challenge.
    *Add your lens to the plexo for your charity below.
  4. Vote for Your Lens the Month of Thanks Challenge.
    Be sure to vote for your lens.
    Encourage other people to vote.
    The new lens created for the challenge with the highest overall number of votes for the month will be the LOTD on November 26.
  5. Convert an existing lens.
    You can also enter the Month of Thanks Challenge by converting an existing lens to benefit one of the charities for at least 10%.
    Older lenses that are converted are encouraged to also join the Month of Thanks.
    Only new lenses will be eligible for the Month of Thanks incentives.

Remember - 10% can change the world!

The Other Charity Challenge for November - A Month of Hope 

You can also make a lens to benefit a Day of Hope as part of the Month of Hope Challenge.

A Day of Hope is a nonprofit program that delivers baskets of food and turkeys to needy families for Thanksgiving.

A Month of Hope's goal is to bring attention to A Day of Hope by encouraging other lensmasters to create lenses that donate their royalties to A Day of Hope.
