Month of Gratitude

Ranked #50,310 in Healthy Living, #599,819 overall | Donates to KIVA

Make February a month to focus on the good things in life.

January is a month of resolutions, a month to take stock of what you want to change in your life. You know, "This year I will finally loose that fifteen pounds," or "This year I'll finally quit my job and start my own business," or "This year I will finally overcome my addiction to Pepperidge Farms' Milano cookies." (Um, maybe that last one's just me.)

Wouldn't it be great if we followed that up with a month of gratitude? Why don't we take an entire month to cultivate the things that are *already* working just fine? I don't know about you, but by the end of January I could use a chance to refocus my attention on all that I already have accomplished, those things in my life that bring me joy and inspiration.

So, here's my challenge to you (and to myself): Let February be a Month of Gratitude. Do your best to celebrate and nurture all the awesomeness in your life. For example, instead of, "This year I will finally loose that fifteen pounds," try "This year I am so grateful to have a rocking body that can really shake it down on the dance floor (or in my locked bedroom. Whichever.)"

There's no rules to this thing. Choose something new to celebrate each week, day, millisecond. Whatever works for you. Just give it a try. See what happens. Post your results here so we can all share in the glorious glow of gratitudeness.

In gratitude,
MerryM

Instant Gratitude

Let's get this lens off to a swift start. What are you grateful for in this instant? What's happening right at this moment that makes you glad to be in the now?

Can't think of anything? Sure you can. Even if it's just, "I'm so glad I've got internet access right here," give it a try.

Infinite Gratitude

So, did that first question get the gratitude juices flowing? Well, keep going with the flow and write out a list!

A gratitude list is a simple, powerful tool to help you realize what the heck you've got to be grateful for anyway. They can be as short as your top five favorite things about living on this amazing planet, or as long as 100 little things that add joy and beauty to your life.

Hmmm, why stop at 100, even? What a fun challenge it would be to write an ever-growing gratitude list! In fact, that's exactly what I'm doing. Click here to view my Infinite Gratitude List. Each day this month, I'll add three new things I'm grateful for. Who knows, maybe I'll even keep at it after February's over. I wonder how many things I can list before I can't think of anything new or original...

But, I shouldn't be the one having all the fun. How about we crowd source this gratitude list thing? Contribute to the Month of Gratitude's Infinite Gratitude list below, then vote for your favorite!

Whenever I feel down, or like I've lost my focus in life, I turn to inspirational books and movies to remind me that I have so much to be grateful for. This movie, based on a book of the same name, has inspired me so much. Each time I watch it, something new speaks to me. My hope is that it does the same for you.
