The History Of Mont Tremblant
A story of nature, love, and a mountain.
The official website says,"Long before Quebec was founded, Tremblant was already a legend. Algonquins called it The Trembling Mountain, and its impressive stature (the highest in the Laurentians) made an impression on Native Americans and early European settlers alike."
But it wasn't until the late 30's until the stunning region caught the attention of Joe Ryan, "an eccentric Philadelphia millionaire, visited Tremblant with his wife Mary."
After an arduous climb to the highest peak, Ryan fell in love with the mountain (or his idea of what it could be).
"From that point on," continues Wikipedia, "his life's goal would be to make the mountain accessible to others, and to transform the region into a world-class alpine village. With the assistance of the local priest, Curé Hector Deslauriers, the resort began to take form. Joe's ultimate goal was to make the mountain, the lake and the views available to all."
Now over 65 years later, Mont Tremblant has certainly grown into its prime.
The resort was acquired by Intrawest in 1991, and while prices at the resort are generally deemed higher than average, there's no doubt that Intrawest has built the location into an incredible destination.
The resort features over 610 acres of skiable terrain, 92 groomed trails and 31 acres of sun-dappled glades, with breathtaking views of the Laurentian Mountains and surrounding peaks.
