HERE'S WHAT I THINK
Monty Python's Lumberjack Sketch Is Better Than The Dead Parrot Sketch
The reasons for viewing Monty Python's Lumberjack Song as funnier than their Dead Parrot sketch are many.
1. The Lumberjack Song builds up to it's climax. It teases you along gently from a simple, strange song into full blown hilarity. The Dead Parrot sketch tells you the joke first, and then prolongs the agony.
2. The Lumberjack Song is catchy and fun to sing. Other people join in within seconds of the start of the song. However, the Dead Parrot sketch is mostly running lines stating that the parrot is dead. It's humor is mostly visual, and allows for a one man show, while others are left on the sidelines chuckling politely while trying to remember the exact phrases so they can join in.
3. Consider the funniest lines in each sketch. Dead Parrot: "This is an ex parrot!" Lumberjack Song: "I wish I'd been a girlie, just like my dear papa!"
