Learn more about Bipolar Mood Charts
A mood chart can be a convenient way to track your child's moods, side effects, sleep patterns, and more. It can also help you remember what happens between office visits.
The Mood Chart is a daily log written by you and/or your child (where age appropriate). It is a record of daily events; what affected them emotionally, the medication taken, side effects from medications, and what type of mood or moods were experienced during the course of the day.
What Are Bipolar Mood Charts?
Bipolar Mood Charts are an excellent tool for parents who have a child with bipolar disorder. It provides a record to share with your child's doctors and can help detect episodes early.
In its simplest form, it is a daily record of your child's emotional state.
Keeping track of any medications given while charting behaviors is crucial to determine the effectiveness or any adverse effects of the medication. For example, careful charting may reveal that after every time a medication is administered, the child becomes anxious and weepy. If medication was not charted alongside the behavior, the correlation may be missed and the anxiety mislabeled as a separate diagnosis, resulting in additional, unnecessary medication.

- I thought this was terrific. I encourage my clients to utilize mood charts, both for themselves, and so that they have written proof of their claims when they go see their psychiatrist. One patient, we've discovered via charting, cycles every January. I liked this enough to feature it on my feature lens module. Stop by if you want to take a gander. It's at http://www.squidoo.com/mood-disorders2. Best, Candida

- This is a wonderful and clever lens--and extremely useful. I myself, and my consulting psychiatrists, high recommend the use of mood charts for our bipolar patients--and often they can make a world of difference in predicting and fending off what might have been disastrous. Thanks for the work!

- I've been trying to print the mood chart, but it will not print. It's not my printer, as I can print other things. Does anyone know why this is, or what I can do to print this version of a mood chart? Any advice is greatly appreciated!
