Moon Calendar - Description
The Moon calendar draws inspiration from the common spirit of different European traditions and mythologies; In particular, from the Gaul's Coligny Calendar, the Celtic Tree Calendar and Anglo-Saxon month names. The Moon Calendar starts with the first new moon of 2008 (8th January) and continues with a page for each month. The Days of the week are named: Sun, Moon, Tiw, Woden, Thor, Freya and Bran.
Each month details the derivation of it's name/character:-
January - February is the Sun's Moon. "The Anglo-saxons called it Sol Monath to celebrate and encourage the increasing day length"
Associated plants and trees and the names by which they have been worshipped are given. "In the Celtic Tree Calendar the Rowan was the Sun's tree, protecting the household. Rowan's were often planted at the door of a dwelling to keepbad witchcraft away"
The Germanic Rune and its name are given, with its meaning in English
Each page also contains a Freda Davis pen and ink drawing.

Pagan Sun and Fire Festivals
Pagans mark the annual cycle of the Sun by four points:the Solstices, seasons of 'Lith' at midsummer and 'Yule' at midwinter and the Equinoxes in Spring and Autumn. There are also ancient pagan fire festivals to mark four mid points between these.Imbolc; candles are lighted in the dark to mark the new strengthening of the Sun after Winter, (Imbolg - Irish for 'in the belly')
Beltane, (tr. 'bright fire') the bold fires of Spring,
Lughnasadh; with sacrifice to the sky god, campfires and barbecues. Samhain, when the Autumn bonfires burn off decaying vegetation and blaze against the dying of the light.
