Origins

By day, Moon Knight is Marc Spector, a former heavyweight boxer, U.S. Marine, CIA Agent and finally, mercenary.

As Spector develops into a skilled fighter and sought after mercenary, he befriends a French pilot Jean-Paul DuChamp, also known as "Frenchie".

Spector and Frenchie take on a job working for an African mercenary, Raoul Bushman, in Egypt. It is while in Egypt the group stumble across an archaeological dig run by Dr. Peter Alraune and his daughter Marlene. The dig had just uncovered an ancient temple where several artefacts, including a statue of the Egyptian god Khonshu were found.

With the intention of looting the dig site, Bushman kills Dr. Alraune. Spector then challenges Bushman to an old fashioned duel, in which Bushman clearly wins, and Spector is left to die in the sub-zero temperatures of the desert night.

Close to death, Spector is found by some roaming Egyptians. They carry him to their temple, where they worship ancient Egyptian gods. It is while lying in front of the statue of Khonshu, that Spector's heart stops. Khonshu then appears to him in a vision, offering Spector a second chance at life if Spector becomes his avatar on earth.

Obviously,Spector accepts the deal, and upon awakening, wraps himself with the silver shroud that covers Khonshu's statue, and returns to the desert to confront Bushman.

After defeating Bushman in their second duel, Spector returns to the US with Marlene Alraune, Frenchie, and the statue of Khonshu.

It is once he is back in the US that Spector creates his silver cloaked costume, and decides to become a crime-fighter, taking on the title of Moon Knight.
