More great Electric Quilt software

Electric Quilt is not just Electric Quilt!

The Electric Quilt Company from Bowling Green, Ohio, makes many, many quilt related computer programmes, some of which are stand-alone and some of which need EQ to operate.

I have been reviewing computer programmes which are of interest to quilters for almost twenty years. I write about them in my Computer Quilts column in Down Under Quilts magazine.

Let me show you some of my favourites, and how good they are to use in your patchwork and quilting efforts.

Electric Quilt 7 The best quilt design programme in the world! And I'm not the only one who thinks so. I love playing with blocks and quilts in EQ7

I use EQ to design quilts

for my students, for my writing

Jewel Box medallion set quilt layout

This design is part of a class on Jan T's Patchwork School, where students learn to design using the Jewel Box block, a traditional patchwork block.
The class is called Jewel Box Quilt Design, and all the block images and the quilt variations were designed in EQ and then exported for use on the web. All without leaving EQ!

You can import an image into EQ

and trace it for an applique pattern

What is paper foundation piecing?

a really great way to make complex blocks

Paper Piecing template printed from Sew Precise softwarePaper foundation piecing is where you print or draw a design in reverse on a piece of paper, and then you sew patches together using the seam lines on the paper to create your patchwork block.

At first I found this really difficult, as it was all "back to front and inside out".

But when I used to have to show people how to use the software, I developed my own method of sewing paper foundation piecing. I call it 'sewing on the line'.

BlockBase V2

a great reference tool

BlockBaseBut it's so much more than that!

BlockBase is an encyclopaedia of more than 4000 patchwork blocks. The programme is based on the book by quilt historian, Barbara Brackman

One of my favourite features is to search for a quilt block in a theme, say accountant.

The blocks that come up in the search results are all blocks with names that might apply to an accountant. What fun!

I want to make a new quilt for my bed. I made this log cabin quilt years ago and loved it. It wasn't fancy but it was pretty.
    Thanks for sharing,
