On Squidoo, There's Never Too Much of a Good Thing.
Humans are obsessed with perfection.
Squidoo doesn't work that way - rather than rewarding really, REALLY good lenses, it rewards people who have lots of lenses. This may sound unfair, but really, it works to your advantage.
You don't have to have the best single lens on a topic.
You don't have to always be #1.
You don't have to worry about Perfection.
You can just worry about putting out what people want to read -- and then giving them more than just what they want.
If you're not already convinced, this lens will explain it all -- and convince you that while you can still have great lenses, making lots of them is even better!
But First, a Question For You...
We can't help you if you won't help yourself first!
Lots of Lenses Means Lots of Money!
And lots of money means you'll spend lots more time on Squidoo!
Now, sure, you've "probably" already noticed that you can put in Amazon affiliate lenses and make money selling books, but I bet you didn't realize that you can make money completely passively on Squidoo.
How? Well, do you notice all the ads on this page?
Squidoo Pays Out Monthly!
Squidoo pays you per lens per month based on each lens's lensrank.
This is the good news.
The bad news is that even the #1 Lens only makes about $8 a month through this route.
If this is how you plan to make the bulk of your earnings, you need to make lots of lenses in order to compensate for the small payout. 8 'acceptable' lenses makes as much money as one really great lens.
Sometimes on Squidoo, quantity really can trump quality.
Lenses Only Hold So Much Content.
And your readers only have so much of an attention span!
I tend to find the right length of a lens is somewhere around 10 modules -- that's enough to include lots of pictures, polls, things on Amazon to buy, various gadgets and widgets...
So if your lens has more than that, either they should all be pretty short modules, or else it's in your reader's best interest (and more profitable for you!) to break long lenses up into smaller, shorter ones with more specialized content.
Google Loves Specialization!
Broad topics get searched for a lot, but there's also lots of competition to get on the first page of Google.
By making your pages specialized, you have less competition for search engine traffic!
More Lenses to Read Makes Readers Happy!
Let readers read about the niche they want, as much as they want!
Let's talk about the Perfect Reader. This mystical, rare creature will:- Find your lens.
- Read the entirety of your lens.
- Respond to all of your interactive modules (like polls, duels, and guestbooks)
- Rate your lens
- Favorite your lens
- Recommend your lens to other people.
That minimum is traffic.
Interested readers click through to the next page to read more. If you have lots of lenses, you give them lots to read, and they leave you lots of traffic.
Traffic improves your ranks and thus makes you money, so this is good. So everyone benefits when you have lots of lenses!
A Great Example
Here's an ordinary lens for you to see what I'm talking about!
My Lens on MOO Minicards sees lots of traffic from my other lenses about various conventions, because they're useful at all different sorts of conventions and get-togethers!Check it out!

I've used MOO Minicards for the past year, and they stand out so much more than the ordinary business card! They're smaller than ordinary cards, but thinner, so they make great bookmarks clients can hold onto. They catch readers' eyes, so they'll wa...
Multiple Lenses Provide Tailored Content
You can get more in depth with more lenses!
Now, if you're building a giant catch-all lens, you're not going to anticipate everyone's needs. And even if you do, how the heck will they FIND it all in that one dinky page?
You can still string all your information together in a series of lenses the same way you can put it all in one big lens, but if some of that content is useful for multiple lenses, having a premade lens dedicated to that one repeated item is a whole lot easier than including it over and over again on several different lenses, right?
By splitting up content into lenses that each only contain a specific topic, you can combine them into other lenses as you see fit later -- and this all still generates the traffic you're looking for!

Specialization is key. Keep things focused. Plus, people on the web have really short attention spans.... You need quality, too. People like good formatting and ease of reading for the eyes. Oh wait, we're talking about quantity. I say, make more!

- There is a lot to be said for being able to make a lens fast enough that you can still be all wound up about the topic by the time you finish.
Also, for some reason, people on Squidoo really like talking to each other ABOUT Squidoo, so making Squidoo Lenses about Squidoo is the next logical step. It's a bit Meta, but there you go.
