Helmets & Hats - and Snuggly Scarves

All-Aglow in Cream
Like all of my 'creations' it is unique - a 'one-off' - never to be repeated exactly the same.
As the designer and creator, I can certainly guarantee these claims.
This aviator helmet and scarf were handknitted using Cream wool and 'Ostrich' yarn together in a rib pattern.
The helmet has long 'tails' ending in crochet 'pompoms' - to leave hanging - or tie for added warmth. And the scarf is 142cm (56") long x 11cm (4.5") wide.
You can see the silkiness and 'glow' the Ostrich yarn adds to this quite beautiful creation.
(And I think my daughter looks pretty special, too - but I could be just a little prejudiced!)

Feeling Blue?
...maybe a littleTurquoise and Purple, too?
This is a charming colour combination, flattering to any hair or complexion shade. This is a scarf that could double as a 'belt' to enhance jeans, skirts or straight dresses. It was created using a Dark Blue/Turquoise/Purple combination 'Feathers' yarn with diagonal stripes of Turquoise 'Ostrich' and plain yarn knitted together - 8cm (3") wide x 104cm (41") long. and only $20.00
Plus, it has a matching hat in vertical 'wedge' stripes of Dark Blue/Turquoise/Purple 'Feathers' & Turquoise 'Ostrich' & plain yarn knitted together, with turn-back trim. Also $20.00.
I would sell the set for $35.00

This scarf for neck or head, was created using Red 'Feathers' yarn, and is 20cm wide x 190 cm total length, including Red & Silver beading, and 17cm fringing each end. (Code 2a)
Pretty in Purple and Pink
...don't you think?
These really are flattering colours. The scarf and aviator helmet were knitted and crocheted this time, using
Pink & Lavender 'Ostrich' type yarn and Pale Pink plain yarn with Lavender tassles each end of scarf. 162cm (64") long x 8cm (3") wide.
The aviator helmet, true to its namesake, can be worn undone, or tied according to preference - and need for extra warmth!
Likewise the scarf, which looks attractive just hanging down. It all depends on the outfit, the look you're seeking, and how chilly the wind feels around your neck.
The Code No. for this one is - 5e
Silver Threads amongst the Grey
...and a Burgundy 'flower'
I love making a scarf on the diagonal - such interesting stripes can be created. This is another scarf that can equally be used as a 'belt' to enhance jeans, skirts, straight dresses. It was created using Silver Grey 'Feathers' yarn with thin diagonal stripes of Burgundy 'Ostrich' yarn, and is 5cm (2") wide x 190cm (75") long. Just $20.00
Plus, matching hat in Silver Grey 'Feathers' yarn with Burgundy 'Ostrich' trim, and I had great fun creating the crocheted 'flower' with its beaded centre, and rolled rim. I really like how it developed. A sort of 1920's 'Flapper' feel to the hat - don't you think?
The hat is also $20.00 - but I would sell the set for $35.00
Oranges and Lemons
This particular scarf & hat were crocheted using an Apricot/Orange 'sparkly' 'Ostrich-type', and plain Lemon yarn, with Lemon crocheted picot edge to hat.The scarf is 190cm (75") long x 8cm (3")wide.
I haven't mentioned yet, that the other good news (for the conservation-minded), is that no living thing was harmed or killed in order to make these items!!
(I know my daughter thinks she looks funny in this set. But if you could see how much hair she has - you would understand.)
Great Stuff on Amazon
Autumn? or Rust?
...and Fawn and Rich Brown
Yet another scarf that can also be a 'belt' to enhance jeans, skirt or straight dress...created using Rust 'Feathers' yarn with mottled Fawn/Brown 'Ostrich' vertical stripes, and is 9cm (3.5") wide x 170cm (67") total length, including 23cm (9") 'Ostrich' fringing. $20.00Plus matching hat in Rust 'Feathers' yarn with Fawn/Brown 'Ostrich' trim and rolled rim. (also $20.00, or $35.00 the set)
The bad news is that this one has now been sold. The good news is that I could make something quite similar again, if someone wanted to order either hat or scarf, or a set.
Silver Threads among the Red
...different!
This scarf was crocheted in an amazing Red 'Velvet' yarn and Silver 'Moonlight' yarn with crocheted silver cord woven through scarf, and silver picot edges to both scarf and hat. The Scarf is 172cm (68") long x 9cm (3.5") wide. Photo Gallery
This scarf is several shades of 'Ostrich' yarn in a glorious 'Peacock-like' combination of Aqua, Turquoise, Purple and Lime/Lemon, including 15cm twist knitted fringes each end. It is over 2m long and can be pulled in to a neck scarf width, or shaken out to a metre in depth for a beautiful head and shoulder scarf - or a shawl. (Code 2J)
There are 'Blue Rinse' Ladies
...and there are 'Lilac Rinse' Scarves.
This particular scarf (or 'belt', to enhance jeans, skirts, straight dresses) was created using a lovely gently speckled soft Grey yarn with Deep Lilac 'Feathers' stripes, knitted in garter stitch, with Deep Lilac 'Feathers' fringing each end. It is 7cm (3") wide x 170cm (67") total length, and it's price is just $15.00Plus, there is a matching hat in soft Grey yarn with diagonal pattern and rolled rim in Deep Lilac 'Feathers' yarn, also $15.00 - or $25.00 the set.
It is named 'Grey/Lilac Ladies Scarf + Hat', and it's Code No. is 5l.
Ringing in the Changes
***Update 13/2/2012 - have closed my Madeit shop - but watch out for these items to reappear in my Etsy shop.
And then there is the question I debate in my Ezine article -
Cosy to Create
...are you Warmed by Watching?

- Thank you everyone - so happy you were warmed - in your hearts, if not by being cuddled up in one of these!
No, Elf, these yarns are not difficult - quite the opposite - a joy to handle (although some are a nightmare to unpick!). Some 'knobbly' ones are too hard for crocheting, because of the 'pull through' action - but it's rare for them not to feel comfortable to knit. I'm an extremely tactile person, so I truly love 'feeling' textures as I work.
Go find an unusual yarn that just feels good and knit up a skinny scarf - give it a go! I believe you'll love it...and the bonus is...it will keep you in stitches!! (chuckles to self)

- You do beautiful work! And the yarns are luscious-looking. Is it difficult to crochet and/or knit in these specialty yarns? I usually use just regular acrylic yarn for my crocheted 'critters' :). Have never tried anything like your lovely 'Ostrich' yarn! This lens is ~~Blessed by a SquidAngel~~
