Morel Mushrooms Are Delicious!
There is nothing better than tromping through the woods with my family hunting for the elusive Morel Mushroom. It gives us time to teach our kids about nature and the appreciation for the smells and wildlife we encounter. Click on the sites below to discover numerous recipes, stories, and tips on where to hunt for this delicious Morel morsel.
Before going out, tag along with a fellow Morel mushroom hunter who has done this before. There are false Morels that are poisonous. So be safe.
In some areas you may encounter ticks. Check each other when you are done hunting. A good bug spray will keep you safe.
In west Michigan, Morel Mushroom season starts around the first week in May. It depends on the cold temperatures and rainfall. I've found them as early as April 25th. I keep a log book to write down the weather conditions, the amount we find, and the fun we had. It gets tougher once the weather heats up. The warmer the weather, the more pesky mosquitoes you will need to battle. Take along a hat, light jacket, some bug spray, water, snacks, and a mesh bag in which to put your treasure. You are set to go.
Sometimes we end up taking more home than just the Morel Mushrooms, like a fallen deer antler, a skull of a rodent, owl pellet, or a beautiful flower. Laying on a hill side with the warm sun on your face, and the anticipation of delicious fried Morels has to be close to being in heaven.
Happy Morel Mushroom Hunting and Cooking!

- Morel Mushroom Hunting in Illinois - Associated Content
- Morchella is a genus of edible cup fungi that are prized by cooks and hunted by thousands of people every year, not only because they love the taste, but also for the joy of the hunt. Sometimes the secrets of hunting for the elusive fungi are passed down from generation to generation. Hunting grounds are kept secret to the point that anyone who wants to join the hunters has to wear a blindfold.

Yes, but if you're a mushroom hunter, we have unique products and information that you just can't live without. We also host the "Sightings" page with hundreds of reports every year since 1998 on the arrival of our favorite fungus. In 1996 we started the Illinois State Morel Mushroom Hunting Championship with a lot of help from friends and family.
- David Fischer's AmericanMushrooms.com
- Welcome to AmericanMushrooms.com. This Web site affords me a great opportunity to share with the general public the marvels and delights of wild mushrooms, which are often referred to as "the higher fungi." It serves as a forum where I can display the results of my many years of studying and photographing these remarkable organisms. And it affords me an opportunity to play an increasingly active role as a promoter, a "champion," of what some might thoughtlessly call "toadstools
- Carved Morels
- These are not reproductions! Each one is an original work of art carved one at a time by our artists. The mushrooms get their color from the motion of our carving tool (the black morels are also stained). The wood is then sealed with a coat of exterior finish polyurethane. Our artists hide their initials in the pit pattern.
