Why Morels?

Morel Mushrooms are among the most prized wild edible mushrooms in the world. They typically appear in early spring and then only for a few short weeks- so the window of opportunity for harvesting morels is very short.

Morels are cone shaped mushrooms on a stalk with a cap like a wrinkled brain- resembling a "sponge on a stick" . They have a rich, creamy flavor that is deliciously earthy, nutty, steak-like- and it's this awesome taste that makes the morel mushroom No.1 with mushroom lovers. It's been said that "there is something almost cruelly tantalizing about morels. No other mushroom in the world, save perhaps the white truffle of northern Italy, offers quite the degree of flavor and fragrance of a fresh morel." The taste of morels is exquisite and indeed addictive.

Morel Mania

Creating morel mania when they appear for a few short weeks every spring, the morel entices thousands of avid morel hunters into the woods. Morel mushroom hunters become obsessed with finding this delicacy! There's even a nickname for people obsessed with morels: Roon. Annual festivals are held in some states to honor this mushroom's spring debut. Morel hunting contests, festivals, web discussion boards, web sites, books, t-shirts, walking sticks and even lamps and other décor items abound.
