The Mormon Tabernacle Choir - Inspiring America for Over 150 Years

The Mormon Tabernacle Choir, nicknamed America's Choir, has been inspiring the public for over 150 years. In recent years the Choir has appealed to a much younger audience who refer to it playfully as the MoTab. It's not just your grandma's choir anymore!

First Broadcast, July 15, 1929

Recently Undergoing a Two-Year Rennovation, the Tabernacle is Home to the Choir Once Again

The Mormon Tabernacle has been home to the Choir since 1867. Recently undergoing a two-year rennovation in which it was seismically upgraded and completely restored, the Tabernacle became home to the Choir once more in 2007. During the rennovation period, the Choir broadcasted its weekly program from the LDS Conference Center.

The Mormon Tabernacle Choir Actually Has Two Homes

The LDS Conference Center is the Choir's Second Home

The 21,000 seat capacity LDS Conference Center hosts the Choir twice a year in April and October during the Church's General Conference. At this time "Music and the Spoken Word" are broadcast directly from the Center. On other occasions, popular entertainers join the Choir, especially at Christmastime, for crowd-pleasing performances and TV specials. Tickets are ordered months in advance.

The Mormon Tabernacle Choir's Weekly Broadcast

Nancy Oram
On the air continuously since 1929, Music and the Spoken Word is broadcast every Sunday morning. Consisting of several numbers by the Choir and a short inspirational talk, for one-half hour audiences the world over are uplifted for the coming week. The signoff is always the consistent, "Again we leave you from within the shadows of the everlasting hills. May peace be with you, this day, and always," accompanied by a fade of the Choir singing "God Be With You Til We Meet Again."

"Again we leave you, from within the shadows of the everlasting hills...."
