How to Grow Mortgage Lifter Tomatoes from Seeds

Growing Heirloom Tomatoes from seeds isn't difficult at all. As a matter of fact any beginning gardener can do it. Sow Mortgage Lifter tomato seed indoors 4 to 6 weeks. Seeds should be sown at least 1/4" deep within a seed starting tray, covered with a plastic dome or plastic cling film in a warm room out of direct sunlight until seedlings emerge.

When the Mortgage Lifter seedlings have emerged, remove the plastic cover and position the tray under a fluorescent light, 1 to 2" above the seedling. After the first set of true leaves appears, fertilize the seedlings weekly with a diluted solution of 20-20-20 fertilizer. Transplant the seedlings into larger pots, if necessary, to facilitate root growth.

Pick a sunny place in the garden and dig a hole about ten inches deep and wide. Mix the soil that you took out of the hole with compost or well rotted manure. Place the tomato plant in the hole and bury it with the mixed soil so that only about half of the plant is sticking out of the ground. The plant will grow more roots where it is buried and be healthier.
