Mosaic Tile Parties for Kids

When inviting children to participate in a mosaic tile party, the main objective is to have the materials pre-cut and ready to glue. Additional cutting of materials, during the party, should only be done by an adult on hand.

It takes practice to cut tile and this isn't the time to teach that part of this craft. Especially to children.

Allow 1.5 to 2 hours for a Mosaic Tile party with cake and presents.

1. Scrap piece of plywood at least 3/4" thick that is large enough to cut 5"x5" blocks for each party goer.

FYI...you can go to a craft store and buy pre-made wood shapes but it's a whole lot cheaper to just find a nice piece of wood and someone that knows how to use power-tools.
2. Gather mosaic tile materials to be glued ... ceramic tile, vintage china, old jewelry, buttons, flat glass gems, small toys and trinkets. {Fabric is not an option}
3. A set of basic mosaic tile tools to cut the materials before the party.
4. A non-toxic adhesive - our preference is Weldbond.
5. Toothpicks and Q-tips.
6. Paper towels.
7. Table protection. Newspaper works great!
8. Safety glasses should always be warn when working with glass and tile.

Each guest will need :
1. A block of prepared wood
2. Adhesive - remember Weldbond is non-toxic and can be applied with your fingers.
3. Toothpicks &/or Q-tips to clean excess glue
4. Paper Towel
5. Instruct guests to start gluing bits and pieces ... advise them to glue them fairly close together.
6. If materials need to be cut, have an adult on hand that is armed with mosaic tile tools.
