It's about time somebody stood up for these lovely creatures. I used to fire my shotgun at them, but then I learned how they may not like that, so I stopped and now I run a shelter for mosquitoes and stink bugs. Love the lens and your sense of humor. 5*

What a clever 5* and A+ page this is! The ONLY thing I don't like about summertime is those pesky mosquitos, and of course the only thing worse is their evil cousins - CHIGGERS!

This is totally hilarious! I am a frequent donor and often walk in the woods unprotected :) Angel Blessed and added to my Squid Angel Mouse Tracks lens!

An oldie, but goody: How do you know if you have a tough mosquito? You slap him and he slaps you back!

Thanks for the laughs today :)

So clever! I laughed out loud here, all by myself! Featured in my new purple star lens.

Not great on mosquito rescues as I tend to swat and ask questions later, however, I feel my nudist colony expeditions have provided sufficient sustenance for those blood lusty ones that got away!

Did you think I would forget? Not a chance! I'm here to remind you of the wonderful lensmaster that you are and to thank you for being my friend! Anyone who reads this comment should know this was the first lens I saw on Squidoo a year and half ago. I has always reminded what a great lens should be! I've always wanted to do this ~ BLESSINGS from a Squid Angel, dear friend! ~

Of course they provide a benefit!! They actually pollinate plants and are quite beautiful if one takes the time to truly look at them. The larvae are a source of food for small fish and other aquatic life.

very nice. But I do have one question that you could add to your site, do mosquitoes actually do anything for the world? as annoying as it is to step on a bee, and as much as a I usually hate them, they help the environment. but do mosquitoes?
  • hlkljgk Jun 23, 2009 @ 7:40 pm | delete
well done. i would be happy if they stayed in your sanctuary. :)

Hi, Twilight! Thank you for making me a part of what I think might be the funniest lens I've come across to date. Yikes. Did I say, "grizzly" when I meant "grisly?" Thank you for the comment you left on my lens. I appreciate it. I am off now to explore more of your lenses. Best, Tom

Not looking for a Citizen of the Year award, or anything. But last night as I was strolling around the block, I heard the muffled gasps of what I took to be a severely distressed mosquito. Sure enough, there on the sidewalk lay a helpless female struggling to breathe. She'd become disoriented after witnessing the grizzly demise of a close friend who'd perished in one of those god-awful electronic zappers. She'd subsequently flown into a lamppost and knocked herself silly. Long story short, I did what any civicminded citizen would do; I performed mouth-to-mouth resuscitation. Soon, she was good as new. She promised she'd remember my act of kindness for the rest of her life...which I think is 24 hours for the average mosquito. I gave her a second chance at life, but she left me with something in return which many might consider even more valuable; she left me with a pair of lips to rival Angelina Jolie's. Which wouldn't be bad except that I'm a guy. Anyone got some ice...?

Shelly, I see why you emailed me this lens to look at....Cute!
There is a humorous side to everything! I'm all for death to the pests that carry diseases and take human lives every year!

Great lens, worth more star than I can give you!

I tried to leave without being seen...isn't it enough that I'm hanging my head in shame? What do you people want from me anyway? It is with great heartfelt sadness that I must turn myself in the The Mosquito Protection Society for only this eveing I personallly ended the life of one of these fairy-like beings and deprived the world of her 100-300 little blessings. I may as well come clean and confess that only yesterday I destroyed prime habitat when I followed my usual schedule of changing the water in the bird ponds.......does it matter that I havn't yet purchases mosquito dunks to end the lives of larvae that may be starting there lives in the ditches around our property? Please, please, please--just look me in the eye and tell me I'm still probably a good person......please!
I totally enjoyed this from start to finish! I Squidooed over from Chef Keem's funny Lensmasters lens. I love how you stayed in character throughout!

I must admit that I have caused the violent death of many mosquitoes - I am not going to admit to millions. You have opened my eyes... I misunderstood their love for me. 5 Stars and I Favorite it.
  • foreverme Mar 8, 2009 @ 4:41 pm | delete
Very tongue-in-cheek! For all you true mosquito lovers out there, if you want to donate your blood to them, don't take vitamin B. "They won't bite - they won't even light!" to quote a classic. Multi-B once a day keeps mosquitoes far away!
  • CatharinaE Feb 28, 2009 @ 1:20 am | delete
This is hilarious, a different view on mosquitos, that's for sure. I actually felt guilty because I killed a few in my lifetime...lol

Just think... there are folks out there planning on INFECTING mosquitos with a virus. As if they don't carry enough with them already? Sheesh! Anyway, I'm fixing up my mosquito killer site (Geckos! sorry, but it's sort of a reptile thing I'm interested in!).
    Best regards,

i have a story. we went camping and there was this lady wearing this form of mosquito protection and there were a bunch of mosquitos around her. i felt bad for the little guys because im sure they were hungry to i ran over and ripped off the ladies hat. the lady started screaming so i dont think she was happy, but there were over a thousdand little guys, which to me, outweighs the ladys feelings. i felt proud of myself, especially since no1 else really seemed to.

Loved your composing the lens so nicely. But still scratching my head,"how to love these poor fellows." My hands act pretty quick even before my brain signals about a mosquito trying to ping me. Some times they are shoooed away but most of the time they are stamped in my body with a big thrash. From now on, I'll try to mend my ways.
A big Five star for such an innovative lens.

You have made a new friend here.
I am working on a report now too, have a lot to add on the subject and only need to summarize my notes for a closely related assault against mosquito control programs.
    Please stay in touch!
    YOU GO GIRL, excellent!
http://www.squidoo.com/MCD is where my second new lens is being worked on, any ideas are welcome, this lens is only about 10 minutes old though.
However "Sanibel Air Traffic," now appears directly under the mosquito control director in Lee County, Fl when you Google her name. (Shelly Redovan) Lets give them a curve ball together, eh?

I confess, I have accidentally swatted thousands of innocent mosquitoes with my large collection of fly swatters, especially my favorite battery operated one that accidentally electrocutes them. Hopefully this lens will make me more careful in the future.

Bravo! Such a misunderstood critter! My lenses on Komodo Dragons, Ticks, Rattlesnakes, and Bats don't hold a candle to this one! Let's hear it for the Anopheles, Aedes, Culex, and other skeeter-types out there.

Hey... do you what you get when you cross a mosquito with a mountain climber? Nothing. Everyone knows you can't cross a vector with a scaler.

Sorry... couldn't resist. Drop on by my lenses and say "Hi!"

LOL! This is a great lens! I'm usually the blood donor of any group, so I get a real kick out of it when someone else gets zapped by the mosquitoes and not me. For some reason* the New Zealand sand flies adored my husband and left me pretty much alone - for a change! Not so, the Aussie Mozzie. I'm enormously popular with them.(*Reason=Aeroguard)
  • Lady_Gotrocks Jun 18, 2008 @ 10:03 pm | delete
I must be mosquito public enemy #1! My blood is toxic to mosquitoes! It kills them with in minutes.
But they get me back I swell up and itch for days after a bite.

I honestly never thought that there's an organization helping the mosquitoes, but they are dangerous, carrying deadly diseases like malaria.

SAVE THE MOSQUITOES!! Seriously, though - we live in a rural area and don't have a huge problem with them (bigger things to worry about!) but if I hear one more "ZOMG WESTNILEISGOINGTOKILLUSALL" inflammatory news report - I'm going to scream. Woo Hoo, nothing like a little media-induced mass hysteria to drive up those repellant sales!

For me this is not only funny, but miserable. In Hawaii the little fairy critters never bothered me. Now that I am living in the mainland I have developed an allergy to mainland mosquitoes! I swell up like a toad in distress from every single bite and the pain last for weeks. DEET is my friend! And to think I hate chemicals! Only the heavy duty hunter, sock 'em fill of chemicals, will keep these tiny fairies from wrecking havoc on my, "none what-so-ever" immunity system!

Mahalo for the spin that had me laughing and itching!

Well I thought this lens would be funny - I was wrong - it's HILARIOUS. Great job - I had a laugh all the way... 5***** from a frequent donor...

On the other hand, I wasn't aware of all the mosquito repellent foliage that you've listed and I'm going to plant every single one of them around our house - ha! A really unique and fun lens.
