Most anticipated albums of 2011

Ranked #11,526 in Music, #313,084 overall

What are the most highly anticipated albums of 2011?

Now a few months into 2011, we are seeing whole host of new music, from both well-known and loved artists and exciting new singers, and there are many much-anticipated albums scheduled for release throughout this year.
In this lens I'll be looking at some of the albums we're most looking forward to, from the familiar faces, some of which have been hidden away writing songs for a few years, and some of which never seem to stop, as well as some exciting new singers we should be looking out for.

Hopefully this will give us an insight into what the ever-changing world of music will look like in the new year, and so far, it's looking good!

Lady Gaga

Lady Gaga. She needs no introduction and no explanation. We all know who she is, and the only thing we can expect from her is the unexpected. Having recently been the first person to ever reach 1 billion views on YouTube with her video for Bad Romance, we can safely say her album will be an instant hit across the world.

Being so well recognised now as both a performer and songwriter, she has all doors open to her and can really take this album in any direction she chooses. It will be fascinating to listen to her new album 'Born This Way', a release date for which has not yet been confirmed, and see how much wackier her music videos can get.

Avril Lavigne

Firstly is punk-rocker turned pop-star Avril Lavigne, who seemed to disappear off the radar for a while, with the exception of the song 'Alice' written for the accompanying album to Tim Burton production of Alice in Wonderland, called Almost Alice earlier this year.

She promises to come back with an incredible fourth studio album in early 2011, after spending an impressive 2 and a half years producing it. It will be less 'boy bashing' than her previous albums, and will heavily reflect her private relationships. I'm excited to hear what the grown-up Avril surprises us with, though I hope she keeps that rebellious edge she is famous for.

Beyoncé

Although not yet set-in-stone, it seems very probable Beyoncé will release a follow up to her 2008 'I am... Sasha Fierce' in 2011. With her unmistakable milismatic vocals, sleek confidence and sexy videos, her album is sure to be a big hit.

Britney Spears

The last few years have certainly been eventful for Britney, and not always for the best of reasons, but she seems to have redeemed herself with her recent tour, and hopefully her new album expected in 2011 will prove she's back for good. This will be her seventh studio album, an impressive record for a girl still so young, and by now we know what to expect from her. It will be raunchy, controversial, but with that innocent air Britney carries, making it all acceptable. Whatever her new album brings, it will be fun and catchy, the sort of songs you hate to love from an artist we are continually fascinated by.

Amy Winehouse

The girl's had lots of problems recently, and the huge Grammy award winning success of her 2006 album was somewhat forgotten about amongst her drug addiction and recovery, but there is no denying she has a fantastic voice. Her new album will be out as early as January, and it promised to be 'very much the same' as Back to Black, so we are most definitely in for a nice treat. Let's hope she stays clean and gets the recognition she deserves for the right reasons with this album.

Joe Jonas

1/3 of the world famous Jonas Brothers has decided to take his own path and release an individual album. Love them or hate them, you'll have to put up with what is guaranteed to be a very successful album. It will be interesting to see how this differs from the music of the band as he breaks away from the regulations of Disney to produce what is said to be a more 'dangerous, sexier' sound. Let's wait and see!

Leona Lewis

Undoubtedly the most successful X Factor winner, and arguably the most talented, Leona Lewis will return in 2011 with her third studio album, after her 2 previous albums, 'Spirit' and 'Echo' released in 2007 and 2009 respectively. Her beautiful vocals will prove a refreshing change from the harsh club music that is dominating the charts just now, and she is a surprisingly normal and nice girl in the crazy world of music. I can't wait to hear what she comes out with next year, though we're sure to be blown away yet again by her talent.

Florence and The Machine

Having already garnered much success in the UK with her album 'Lungs' released in 2009 and her unique blend of rock and soul, Florence and The Machine is poised to become a household name after performing at the VMAs in September and providing a song 'Heavy In Your Arms' for the soundtrack of 'The Twilight Saga: Eclipse'. This new album will be less 'blood and guts' but will still have a strong focus on the medical aspect as many of Florence Welch's family are doctors. Will definitely be interesting!

Paramore

Unfortunately, Paramore have lost two of it's number going into 2011, but it seems this will not stop them. The internationally acclaimed band will probably be back in 2011 with a new album. No dates have been set as they've been touring practically non-stop, but it seems very likely a third album can be expected by late 2011. They shot to fame with the use of their song 'Decode' in Twilight, then proved they are much more than a one-trick pony with their second platinum selling record 'Riot!', and have worked hard to earn the strong army of dedicated fans across the globe. With this new album, they can only reach new heights, and I'm excited to hear it.

Coldplay

Coldplay achieved worldwide fame with their song 'Yellow' in 2000, and continued to prove their talent with 4 albums, several Grammy awards and an astounding 50 million records sold worldwide. This fifth album has been delayed into 2011, but I'm sure it will be worth the wait.

This is not exactly my kind of music, but I LOVE the way you write. Thank you!

I'm an old gal, and some of the new music leaves me cold, but I DO like Lady Gaga, Beyonce, and I believe Brittany Spears has great talent if she could just keep her focus on her music. My grandson has talked a lot about Cold Play, so it's not unfamiliar to me. This is an excellent lens for the new music in 2011. Thanks for sharing.
