Mario Kart Wii 

Wii

Mario Kart Wii is a kart racing video game by Nintendo for the Wii console. The game is currently projected for Early 2008 worldwide release, however, some sites have confirmed a tentative release date of April 30, 2008. According to 1up.com it will be released on March 15, 2008. The game will be packaged with the Wii Wheel accessory. It is designed to house the Wii Remote to allow more intuitive and conventional steering.

Grand Theft Auto IV

Grand Theft Auto IV (also known as GTA IV or GTA 4) will be the tenth game, and first in the fourth generation of the Grand Theft Auto video game franchise. It has been announced by Rockstar Games for release within February-April of 2008 for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. The game is set in a redesigned Liberty City, based heavily on New York City. GTA IV runs on the RAGE game engine, which also powered Rockstar Games presents Table Tennis. The game is being written by Rockstar co-founder Dan Houser. It will include online play, but will not be an MMOG.

Super Smash Bros. Brawl

Super Smash Bros. Brawl is an upcoming crossover fighting game to be published by Nintendo for the Wii console. As the third installment of the Super Smash Bros. series, this title once again features a diverse roster of characters from Nintendo and its second parties to fight in various kinds of matches. However, it is the first game in the Super Smash Bros. series to feature third-party characters.

As with its predecessors, Super Smash Bros. Brawl is a departure from traditional fighting games, notably in its simplified move commands and its emphasis on ring outs over knockouts. This installment will also include a deeper single-player mode than its predecessors. Known as The Subspace Emissary, this mode is a plot-driven side-scrolling video game featuring Brawl's playable characters. Super Smash Bros. Brawl supports multiplayer battles with up to four combatants, and will be the first game of its franchise to support online battles through Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection.

Fallout 3

Fallout 3 is an action role-playing game, currently under development by Bethesda Softworks. It will be the third major game in the Fallout series, which has also spawned the spin-offs Fallout Tactics: Brotherhood of Steel and Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel.

Similar to previous Fallout games, Fallout 3 takes place in post-apocalyptic United States. The player character is a member of Vault 101, a fallout shelter serving Washington D.C. One day, the player wakes up finding that his father has left the vault and ventured into the wasteland for unknown reasons. Wishing to uncover the mystery behind his father's departure, the player leaves the protection of the vault as well, in search of his father's whereabouts.

Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots

Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots (commonly abbreviated to MGS4) is the forthcoming game in the popular Metal Gear series. Directed by Hideo Kojima, Shuyo Murata and Yoji Shinkawa, Guns of the Patriots is currently being developed by Kojima Productions exclusively for the PlayStation 3 video game console. The game is being designed around the motto, "No Place to Hide!" As with previous iterations in the series, MGS4 will purportedly be the last Metal Gear Solid game developed by Hideo Kojima, and the last game in the series starring Solid Snake. It is due for simultaneous release in Asia, North America and Europe in Q2 2008.

Final Fantasy XIII is an upcoming console role-playing game developed and published by Square Enix exclusively for the Sony PlayStation 3 as a part of the Final Fantasy video game series. Final Fantasy XIII is the flagship game in the Fabula Nova Crystallis Final Fantasy XIII collection. The game takes place in the same universe as the other games, although they are not directly related to each other. Final Fantasy X-2 director Motomu Toriyama returns as the director of the game.

Army of Two is a video game developed by Electronic Arts, to be released on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 on March 4, 2008.

Army of Two (AO2 or Ao2) is a co-op third-person shooter with a focus on cooperative and coordinated strategies. Players will join up with either the game's built-in "Partner Artificial Intelligence" (PAI) or other players "to fight through war, political turmoil and a conspiracy so vast it threatens the entire world." Story details are vague at the moment, but the game has been designed to necessitate teamwork; some missions may be close to impossible to complete without cooperation with the PAI.

Left 4 Dead is an upcoming multiplayer co-operative survival horror game by Turtle Rock Studios which is, as of January 10, 2008, part of Valve Corporation. The expected release date for Left 4 Dead is late Summer 2008. The game has been built using Valve's Source engine.

The game was first revealed in the Christmas 2006 publication of PC Gamer UK with a six-page article describing a playthrough at Valve's headquarters.

The game was first playable at the Showdown 2007 LAN in San Jose. It was also playable from August 2 to August 5 at QuakeCon 2007. A Valve booth allowed a team of 4 survivors to play against AI controlled bots as well as 2 guest developers from Turtle Rock Studios. However, the general public was only allowed to play as the four survivors.

Brütal Legend is an action adventure game under development by Double Fine Productions and published by Sierra Entertainment for the Microsoft Xbox 360 and the Sony PlayStation 3. It is the second game from Double Fine Productions, following the critically-acclaimed Psychonauts. The game was announced by Game Informer magazine in their November 2007 issue.

A CGI trailer advertising Brütal Legend was made available on October 16th, 2007, introducing the main plot device in the game as well as demonstrating a variety of action sequences. A high-definition (780p) version of the trailer was made available on October 19th, 2007

Prototype is a video game developed by Radical Entertainment and based on an original IP developed in-house. The game is intended for release in the summer of 2008 for the Playstation 3, Xbox 360 and PC platforms. The game is the first in a planned franchise.

The player controls the character of amnesiac Alex Mercer in New York City, with freedom similar to that of the Grand Theft Auto series and The Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destruction, in which the player can visit most locations and interact with the environment while not engaged in missions. Alex will clash with the military's Black Watch Special Forces and the effects of a mutated viral epidemic as he works to discover the secrets of his past.

A key aspect of Prototype is the 'disguise or destroy' concept, which is tied to Alex's enemy-consuming and shapeshifting powers. Alex can consume the bodies of those he has killed, which gives him access to their memories, their experiences, and their physical forms. Alex can also shapeshift into more fantastic forms for attack, defense, or sensory enhancement. All of these together are intended to give players multiple ways to complete their objectives. Movement is simplified to allow more controls dedicated to shapeshifting, with Alex automatically navigating obstacles in a manner inspired by Parkour.

Dark Sector

Dark Sector is a PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 game currently under production by Digital Extremes.

Originally based on the Sector Engine at officially announced 2004, Dark Sector's current version uses the Evolution Engine, a proprietary next-gen technology developed by Digital Extremes. An in-game cinematic has also been publicly released, giving viewers a brief look at potential storylines and environments, as well as the graphics of the game. Digital Extremes has specifically stated that the clips are not pre-rendered and are actual in-game footage. Dark Sector is slated to be released in early 2008. Set in the crumbling infrastructure of a fictional Soviet-bloc country in the near future, the game features both single and multi-player action, with players working their way through a world where biological weapons are a hellish nightmare, let loose on an unsuspecting populace.

Ghostbusters

Ghostbusters is a video game based on the Ghostbusters film franchise in development for the PlayStation 3, PlayStation 2, Xbox 360, Wii, Nintendo DS, and PC, to be published by Sierra Entertainment. The PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC versions are being developed by Terminal Reality, while the PlayStation 2, Wii and Nintendo DS versions are being developed by Red Fly Studio (developers of Mushroom Men). The game's storyline is being written by Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis, the writers of the original films and they along with Bill Murray and Ernie Hudson will lend their voices and likenesses to the game. Several supporting cast members, such as William Atherton (Walter Peck), Brian Doyle Murray (as the team's psychiatrist, who may be the same character he played in Ghostbusters II) and Annie Potts (Janine) have also signed on.

Battlefield: Bad Company

Battlefield: Bad Company (abbreviated BFBC) is a first-person shooter under development by Digital Illusions CE. Currently planned for the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360, Bad Company will be the first Battlefield game to be developed specifically for next-gen consoles. It will be released March 27 2008. A teaser trailer was released on February 28, 2007 displaying destructible environments and gameplay visuals. A second trailer was released on September 6, 2007 showing First Person gameplay and the first glimpse of the storyline.

Far Cry 2

Far Cry 2 is an upcoming first person shooter published by Ubisoft and is the sequel to Far Cry. Crytek, developers of the original game, are not involved in the development of Far Cry 2. The PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions were announced on 3rd January 2008, with a release date for the fiscal year ending March 2009. Far Cry 2 will be released for PC on March 25, 2008.

Turok will be the latest installment in the first-person shooter Turok video games series based on Acclaim Entertainment's comic series under the same name. The game is currently scheduled to be released for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on February 5, 2008 and in the spring for the PC. It is being developed by Propaganda Games and published and distributed by Disney Interactive Studios under the Touchstone banner.

Splinter Cell Conviction

Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Conviction is the fifth installment in the Splinter Cell series of video games. Conviction will be developed by Ubisoft Montreal (developers of Splinter Cell, Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory and the 6th generation versions of Splinter Cell: Double Agent) and published by Ubisoft. While not much is known about the game in its current state, 1UP.com confirmed the game's exclusivity to the Xbox 360 and Windows platforms.

The name "Conviction" was established from the September 21 leak (see "Ubisoft leak" below). Although Ubisoft has acknowledged that a fifth Splinter Cell is in the works, the name "Conviction" was not used by Ubisoft in any official statement. On May 2nd, 2007, Gamers Reports confirmed the title of Splinter Cell: Conviction.

Sam Fisher is said to be 53 years old in the game, which would set the game somewhere in 2010.

The game was originally going to be released globally on November 16, 2007, but on July 24, 2007, Ubisoft announced a delay to their fourth fiscal quarter (January to March 2008). On November 20, 2007, Ubisoft announced another delay to next year's fiscal quarter (which begins April 1, 2008).

Burnout Paradise (formerly known as Burnout 5) is the newest video game in the Burnout series, which was released on January 22, 2008 in North America and will be released on January 25, 2008 in Europe. It will be available for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. It has a seamless open-world set in the fictional 'Paradise City', with no loading times and no traditional online lobbies or game menus.

The Club

The Club [working title] is a video game by Bizarre Creations and will be published by Sega. The game mixes elements from action shooters with combo and point based combat (as seen in games such as Devil May Cry and Total Overdose respectively). The story of the game centres around The Club, a shadowy underground blood-sport controlled by a faceless, wealthy and influential elite who place their bets on who will survive the gladiatorial style combat.

Devil May Cry 4

Devil May Cry 4 is the second sequel (Devil May Cry 3 being a prequel) to the Capcom action game Devil May Cry. It was announced in March 2007 that the game would be released simultaneously for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and later PC. It is being developed by Capcom Production Studio 4, the producers of Resident Evil 4 and the original Devil May Cry. The Devil May Cry 4 demo is said to be released Thursday January 24, 2008

In the game, the player controls Nero, a new character, in addition to an appearance by series lead Dante, fighting demonic enemies in close combat using firearms, swords and a variety of weaponry in a horror setting. Also joining the cast is a new female character, Kyrie. Capcom has also revealed three new characters, Credo, Gloria and Agnus, along with returning characters Lady and Trish.

Infamous

inFamous is a video game for the Sony PlayStation 3 video game console developed by Sucker Punch Productions, creators of Rocket: Robot on Wheels, and the Sly Cooper video game franchise. The game was announced at Sony's E3 2007 Press Conference on July 11, 2007. An exact release date for the game has not yet been announced, although the debut trailer indicated that the game will be released sometime in 2008. It will be the company's first original IP since Sly Cooper.

The game is a third-person sandbox world that combines elements of the superhero MMO City of Heroes with a roaming open-world, allowing the player to make choices between being a hero or an anti-hero that will affect the game. The player will also have access to various super powers as seen in the trailer, such as psychokinesis, flight, super jump and electrical conduction. However, the way in which these powers are/will be obtained are currently unknown.

Frontlines: Fuel of War

Frontlines: Fuel of War is a first-person shooter game which is set to be released in 2008 for the Xbox 360 and Microsoft Windows. It is being produced by Kaos Studios, previously known as Trauma Studios, who produced Desert Combat, an extremely popular modification for Battlefield 1942.

Frontlines: Fuel of War is set in a dystopian 2024 in the midst of a global energy crisis. As supplies of oil and natural gas wane, diplomatic relationships between the East and West were strained, causing new alliances to be formed. The two major alliances in the Frontlines era are the Western Coalition, consisting of the United States and the European Union, and the Red Star Alliance, made up of Russia and the People's Republic of China. As the last oil fields start to go dry, the countries move to secure what resources are left, leading to several small outbreaks that turn quickly into full scale war.

Mercenaries 2: World in Flames

Mercenaries 2: World in Flames is the upcoming sequel to 2005's Mercenaries: Playground of Destruction. It is being developed by Pandemic Studios for PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Windows, and published by Electronic Arts. The game is set in Venezuela, "which is invaded after a tyrant interferes with the country's oil supply".

An official trailer for the game was released in 2007, showing in-game footage and an introduction to the mercenaries that the player will be able to control.

Saints Row 2 is an upcoming video game for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 and is a sequel to Saints Row. The game will continue to be developed by Volition, and published by THQ.

CFO Edward K. Zinser revealed the game in a conference call on May 10, 2007. The game will ship simultaneously on both platforms in 2008.

Midnight Club: Los Angeles is the fourth video game in the Midnight Club racing series. It was officially announced on May 16, 2007 by Rockstar Games. The game is being developed by Rockstar San Diego, the same studio behind Rockstar's first iteration into the seventh generation of video games, Rockstar Games Presents Table Tennis. Because the revolutionary game engine, RAGE has been confirmed to be used in the highly anticipated GTA IV, many believe RAGE will also be utilized in this next installment. The map of Los Angeles is confirmed to be the size of all three cities from the previous installment combined. The game will be released on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 video game consoles in early 2008.

Gran Turismo 5 Prologue is the latest installment in the Gran Turismo series and a PlayStation 3 exclusive title which was announced at the E3 2007.

The game was released in Japan on both the PlayStation Store and Blu-ray Disc on December 13, 2007 to celebrate the series' 10th anniversary. The PlayStation Store version requires just over 2.2 gigabytes of available hard disk space. The Blu-ray version may cut down on this. The Blu-ray version costs ¥4,980 (inc. tax) and the PS Store version costs ¥4,500 (inc. tax). This short version title is a precursor to Polyphony Digital's planned Gran Turismo 5. Gran Turismo 5 Prologue features 16-player online races (starting in Christmas 2007), 37 cars, 5 tracks, and 7.1ch (LPCM) high definition sound.

A free playable demo version was available in the Japanese PlayStation Store from October 20 to November 30, 2007, and a North American special version was available at the 2007 SEMA Show on December 6.

Alan Wake

Alan Wake is a video game being developed by Remedy Entertainment, the Finnish company behind the Max Payne games. Alan Wake is billed as a "psychological action thriller". Microsoft Game Studios is the publisher of the game. The game is being developed exclusively for Windows Vista and Xbox 360, with a PlayStation 3 version also planned but then cancelled when Microsoft acquired publisher rights of the title.

The character Alan Wake is modeled after Ilkka Villi, a Finnish professional actor and writer.
