An Overview of the Most Common Mental Health Disorders / Illnesses
According to WIKIPEDIA, "a mental disorder or mental illness is a psychological or behavioral pattern generally associated with subjective distress or disability that occurs in an individual, and which are not a part of normal development or culture". There are 6 major categories to MENTAL DISORDERS: Anxiety Disorders (Generalized Anxiety Disorder, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, Obsessive Copulsive Disorder, Panic Disorder, Social Anxiety Disorder, Specific Phobias etc.), Mood Disorders ((AKA Affective Disorders: Depression, Mania, Bipolar Disorder etc.), Psychotic Disorders (Schizophrenia etc.), Eating Disorders (Anorexia Nervosa, Bulimia, Binge Eating Disorder etc.), Impulse Control and Addiction Disorders (Pyromania, Kleptomania, Gambling, Alcohol and Drug Abuse etc.), and Personality Disorders Anti-Social Personality Disorder, Paranoid Personality Disorder etc.).
When you look at the descriptions, it seems like each of us has a little bit of everything these days. But of course, all kidding aside, these are serious conditions that most of the time require professional help.

What Are The Most Common Mental Health Disorders?
ANXIETY DISORDERS
Researches show that Anxiety Disorders are at the top of the list when it comes to mental health problems. Phobias are the leading mental health disorders affecting 12.5% of the population in United States alone. These are specific phobias like claustrophobia, agoraphobia, arachnophobia etc. 12.1% of the population also suffer from Social Phobia apart from the above mentioned sub-category. Another increasing anxiety disorder over the last 2 decades is called Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (aka PTSD) especially seen in military personnel who returned home from overseas. PTSD is followed by General Anxiety Disorder affecting 5.7% of the population. Separation Anxiety is also very common with 5.2% of the population suffering from it. Do you want to learn how to keep your anxiety symptoms under control?
There are many ways to cope with anxiety disorders. The first option is to certainly get professional help. Especially if these symptoms are interfering with your daily life. There are a lot of different kinds of medications that will help you. But if you tried this option and found out you have low tolerance to anxiety medications (most of them have a long list of side effects) you are probably looking for natural ways to keep the symptoms under control, or you are hoping to find ways to teach yourself how to manage it. There are many books about this topic that will give you some answers and lead you to your self-help path.
MOOD DISORDERS
Mood Disorders are the second most common category of mental disorders. For example 16.6% of the population in United States suffer from Major Depressive Disorder. Schizophrenia is one of the most known psychotic disorders affecting about 1% of the population (nearly 3 million Americans). If you or someone you know suffer from psychotic disorders, you DO need professional help!

Eating Disorder is described as "abnormal eating habits" such as insufficient or excessive consumption of food. It is believed that this condition is more common in females than it is in males. Researches show that nearly 10 million women and more than 1 million men are suffering from some type of eating disorder. The most common eating disorders are Anorexia Nervosa, Bulimia and Binge Eating. The real causes of eating disorders are unknown however latest researches show that there is a combination of factors involved in the development of these disorders and genetic factors along with socio-cultural and psychological factors play a part. Eating disorders are caused by a combination of genetic, psychological and social factors.
