Your opinions about Motel/Hotel Chains will help other travelers!

Have you been on a trip recently? Did you visit a new destination?

Are you planning a trip? Are you visiting a place you have never been before?

Then read on or comment on! Post your hotel reviews! Below are listed some of the major hotel/motel chains in the good ole USA. I know there are many out there, so if one is not mentioned that you would like to make a statement about, put it in the Guest Book and I will add it.

Really, your comments might help someone find just the right place to stay.

Most of the photos of the hotels are from Flickr or the chain websites.

When you travel, is it important where you stay the night?

Is a hotel or motel part of your travel plans?

What do you look for in a place to lay your weary head when you travel? Is it comfort? Quality of the bed linens? Cleanliness? Breakfast?

We often camp, so .... But to answer the question, when we DO stay at a hotel (and more often than not it's a bed & breakfast we prefer), it's about a balance between economy and cleanliness. Also, location. If a hotel/motel is right on a busy road, we kind of shy away from that because of the noise, unless we can get a room away from the street.

The Accidental Tourist:

About a travel writer who hates hotels.

This novel by Anne Tyler tells the story of a man who hates to travel, but does it for a living. He wants to stay at home, so he searches out home-like hotels and restaurants and includes them in travel guides.

I personally, want to have a home-like place to stay, but I like it to be better than where I live. I have a nice house, but I cannot afford really expensive silk bedspreads or down pillows. Plus, don't you want your vacation to be just that? A vacation from the ordinary.

By the way, Anne Tyler is one of my favorite authors. She is, in my humble opinion, one of the best American writers ever!

Best Western Motels

What has been your experience?

As in most chains, the newest locations are usually in the best condition and the price reflects it. We stayed in a brand new Best Western in Hayes, KS and it was very nice. Good linens, good breakfast. A bit pricey even using the AARP rate it was around $100.

The Best Western in Hayes, KS is tops!

Hampton Inns

List the locations you have stayed, if you like.

My husband and I like the Hampton Inns as a whole. The beds are usually comfortable and the linens are always first class. We have found that the newer motels are nicer - duh! Some locations offer a good discount, but others do not. You just have to ask.

Hampton Inn, along I-40 in Ark. is an older hotel. Stay at one of the newer ones at this exit.

Motel Signs--vintage Americana!

Have you read any good motel books, lately?

As a child in the 1950's I loved looking at the motel signs along the highway. Those motels looked like such fun! The buildings were usually painted in pastel colors that promised that Ann Margaret or Elvis had a hand in the decor! Several of the books below tell the story of just such places along America's highways.

FYI: In The American Motel below, I discovered that the word motel came from combining "motor" with "hotel".

Rate the following if you have read one or add a book, if you will.

Boutique Hotels

A new idea kind of like Bed and Breakfast Inns. Only they are "hotels". Most of them are newly renovated older hotels (Joie De Vivre in CA). Some are brand new. You just have to do the research on travel sites or read any reviews posted here.

FYI: join any club that these hotels offer. You can get some great freebies and room upgrades!

By the way, they are not the cheapest rooms on the block!
I recommend using Hotwire. Do not be afraid to book a hotel without the name. If you narrow your search and believe the Star ratings, you will have no problem.

Bed and Breakfast Inns

Feel free to put a link to your favorite BnB here:

Most often a BnB is an old home that has been remodeled. Some are classic Victorian houses, others are older hotels or inns in a city. I have stayed in both types. Again, read any reviews you can find before you book. Some BnBs can be quite shabby, or you have to share a bath with a stranger. They are also not cheap.

My Guestbook!

Thanks for visiting!

Most inns and guesthouses I have visited have a guestbook where one can leave comments. I have found it most enjoyable to read them. Past guests usually leave their suggestions for local sites, activities and restaurants. It is also fun to see where visitors are from.

Please leave your comments here for others to enjoy!
