Not Without My Daughter
Not Without My Daughter is based on the true life story of Betty Mahmoody. Betty married "Moody" an Iranian Doctor, had one daughter, and lived in America until her husband wanted to take a visit to see his family in Iran. After stepping foot in Iran Betty's life changed dramatically. Her husband became brutal and mean, her freedom was taken away from her, and she could not leave the country. This film tells the story of her struggle to get back home to America with her daughter.
While this movie has a cautionary tale about knowing who you getting involved with, it is also a testimony of a mother's love for her daughter. Because her daughter was in both parents custody it was much harder for Betty to get her daughter out of Iran. Betty never stopped until she found a way out of Iran, and a way to save her daughter from growing up as a second class citizen.

The Joy Luck Club deals with the mother daughter relationship fantastically and utilizes themes of love, acceptance and the struggle to fit in to tell these woman stories.

Winger, MacClaine and Nicholson deliver amazing performances in Terms of Endearment. These performers bring the characters to life with amazing realism. This movie will make you laugh, comisserate, and even cry; especially towards the tragic end of one of the main characters.

Daphne Wilder (Keaton), the mother of three daughters, seeks to save her youngest daughter Milly (Mandy Moore) from making the same mistakes she did with love. The overbearing Mom places an ad in the paper, unbeknownest to Milly, to find Milly a suitable boyfriend. When Daphne's plan goes awry Milly must discover who she when faced with two different love interests, and Daphne must learn the meaning of boundaries.
Because I Said So is a fun, at times painful, look at the mother daughter relationship. Keaton and Moore are perfectly cast as the neurotic mother daughter duo. Together this Mom and daughter must find themselves to make their mother daughter bond stronger.

Freaky Friday
Freaky Friday is about a mother and daughter who each believe each other's lives would be better, if not easier than their own. When something unusal happens the two switch bodies and get to see whether or not the grass is greener on the other side.
I chose this version of Freaky Friday because I find the acting in the 1976 version stronger and the story more compelling than the current Lohan version; however, the current version may play better to a younger audience familiar with Lohan.
