What are your responsibilities?
So your daughter is getting married. CONGRATULATIONS! But it isn't all about celebrating, being the mother of the bride is not an easy role, it is a big job. Your daughter will probably have her own vision, which let's face it, will probably differ from yours. Here's how to play your role and enjoy the time with your daughter leading up to the big day.
1. Meet the in-laws
Hopefully by now you have met the in-laws, but if not it is good to meet them. Forming a friendship with the in-laws is really important, especially for your daughters sake. She will want you to be friends and close so that the family can be extended which will make the whole process easier leading up to the wedding and you can all input your ideas about the wedding in conjuction to what the bride and groom would like. 2. Help with the guest list
It is good to help your daughter with the guest list by reminding her of ones that she could invite, like distant family members or friends. But bare in mind to also consider the in-laws and who they may want to invite. Also the your daughter and son in-law will get annoyed if you overtake. Make sure you don't become a momzilla. Give a few inputs but don't over-do it. 3. Shopping
Perhaps you have dreamed of this day forever, going shopping with your daughter for the perfect wedding dress. You daughter may have her own mind and idea of what she wants. Be supportive of her choice but give your opinion in a nice way. If she doesn't find a dress she likes don't call her too picky, it is the biggest day of her life, she wants to look nice, but rather help her find her dream dress. If she gets stressed out be there to calm her down and reassure her everything will be fine. 4. Help bride with reception venue
The mother of the bride is also responsible for helping the bride choose the reception menu, seat the reception guests, and order stationery, such as invitations, napkins, place cards, and thank-you notes. She can also help the bride address invitations and stuff envelopes. She may also have to call the florist, the caterer, the wedding director, and others in order to make certain the plans for the wedding and reception are moving along. It may be up to her to pick up the bride's dress and flowers, too. 5. Helping your daughter with the stress
The mother of the bride should try to help make her daughter's day go as smoothly as possible, without insisting her own tastes or preferences be followed. Being unselfish and flexible in her outlook toward the wedding may be the best gift she can give to her daughter. Link List
