My Take
On my web site I have written some reviews for motherboards.
So this lens will be kinda like a mini review for them.
Have a look around and if you are a Do It Yourselfer maybe you will find something you can do for your next project.

ASUS
Asus P5LD2 R2.0
Now that it is published I can not put the details here becuase that would create duplicate content.
I think this is an excellent motherboard for upgrading to or to build brand new system. The board is full of features and if you are a light to meduim user all the built in options will mean you don't need to add much to get the board mounted and operational
Have a look at the reivew here:

Tyan 478 Motherboard Review
Asus P5k Deluxe
Would you like to upgrade your current motherboard to include:WiFi
8 USB ports
Firewire
SATA Hard Drive interfaces
Support for all Core 2 processors
8 Gig of ram
Two Giga bit network cards
Overclocling
Well the one I picked was the Asus P5k Deluxe with WiFi.
The current processor is a Core 2 Duo E4500 that runs at 2.2 GHz which I have overcloced to a modest 2.48 GHz.
The above list is not allt that this board has, too much to list here.
I have found this motherboard to be extreamly reliable and easy to install. With all the features that are available this one is a winner, I recomend it.

Core 2 Duo Processor by Intel
Your P4 2.8 GHz processor a little tired, long in the tooth, going on it's 8th birthday? Why not upgrade?
The Core 2 Duo Processor by Intel is one of the best deals going. Two processors for the price of one!
The one I bought and did the review for only cost me $130! You can find them cheaper now if you look around the web.
One thing you need to know: If you have a P4 motherboard that is not a LGA 775 socket you will have to upgrade your motherboard to install this processor.
I have found (I worked on servers for many years) that the new processors are excedinly well adapted for super multitasking. That is with a program or manually setting the affinity your system will not drag when you open four or five programs and the Anti-virus scan runs. Cool!
