Gaia, Mother Of All Things
Is the Earth alive? Is she sentient? What can we do to save the earth? These questions, and more, are explored. Enjoy your stay!
The Millennial Gaia
I first met the Millennial Gaia sculpture several years ago while living in Escondido CA. I say "met", because my first impression upon walking into Raven's Loft, and seeing this sculpture, was one of awe and an almost immediate desire to have her come home to live with me. Raven's Loft was a store owned by the Wiccan author, Raven Grimassi, and his partner, Stephanie Taylor. They have since closed the store but continue to sell Wiccan and Pagan products through their on-line store.Gaia is the primal Greek Goddess personifying the Earth. The statue was created by Oberon Zell-Ravenheart, the founder of the Church of All Worlds. Along with being an artist who enjoys sculpting images of the Gods and Goddesses, he is also an author, lecturer, teacher, transpersonal psychologist, metaphysician, shaman, and priest of the Earth-Mother Gaia. He likes to call himself a "wizard." He is credited with formulation of the thealogy of deep ecology, which has become known as The Gaea Thesis.
Zell designed his vision of Gaia with a planetary globe forming Her pregnant belly. Every part of Her body contains symbols of the living Earth. Sculpted in the back of Her hair are animals tracing the evolution of life on land, and those on Her legs trace the evolution of life in the sea. One breast represents the moon, the other the is a cornucopia of fruits and vegetables. Similar engravings on her arms show the forests: Redwoods on Her right arm, and the tropical Rain Forest on Her left. Her facial features are a blend of all races. She symbolizes the interconnectedness of all beings. The statue comes with a printed guide to every image. This is one altar statue you will treasure forever.

Goddess Music from Amazon
Who Is the Earth Mother?
"The Earth Mother is the most vivid and immediate face which the Goddess presents to us. She is fertility itself, for mankind and for all creatures and plants. She gives birth to us and to them; she nourishes us and them throughout life, and in death receives the empty physical shell back into herself and transforms it into new fertility; for she is both the womb and the tomb, which is again the womb. She maintains the eternal, rhythmic balance by which plant feeds animal and animal feeds plant, and each moreover breathes out the air which the other needs to breathe in.
She can be merciless in defense of that balance. When it is threatened by one part of her family of children, she will take action, as drastic as may be necessary, before the situation gets out of hand."

Roman Hymn to the Earth
"Earth, holy mother, source of nature,
You feed us while we live, hold us when we die.
Everything comes from you, everything returns to you.
What else could we call you but Our Mother?
Even the Gods call you that. Without you there is nothing.
Nothing can thrive, nothing can live without your power.
Queen and goddess, I invoke you:
You are all - powerful and my needs are so small.
Give me what I ask in exchange, I will give you
My thanks, sincere and from my deepest heart"

Is Gaia Alive?
Ever since I did a ritual and invoked Gaia as the goddess, I have been drawn to study and learn more about our Earth Mother. So when I saw the book "Gaia Eros, Reconnecting to the Magic and Spirit of Nature" by Jesse Wolf Hardin, I knew it belonged in my library.Jesse Wolf Hardin is well known among those who support natural history and deep ecology. He is an author, artist, musician, and poet. He is also co-directs the Animá Center, a canyon wildlife sanctuary and wilderness restoration project in New Mexico. (see Wikipedia for more information.)
Amber K, Wiccan priestess, wrote the Forward for the book. She states:
"Gaia Eros is a book about the magic of such elemental basics as food and sex and shelter; how to savor not only food but existence itself, how to make love as though your partner really is a sacred being passionately creating the Beginning of All Things with you, and how to know that the Earth is both your shelter and body and that all living things are your kin - blood of your blood. Mostly it is a book about living so well that your dying could be a shout of joy, rather than a desperate gasp for one more breath, because in your heart, you know that you missed out on the good stuff - the real stuff.
Gaia Eros is all about the real stuff. It just might bring you back to Life."
The Prologue is written by Oberon Zell-Ravenheart whom I mentioned previously. He has this to say.
"We have always known, in our deepest heart of hearts, that the Earth is alive. Throughout the world, even small children intuitively recognize Mother Earth. She is the oldest and most universally acknowledged religious archetype in all of human experience
Oberon goes on to state that Gaia is awakening. "The Wheel is turning again and the Goddess is re-emerging...She is beginning to awaken; her eyelids are fluttering. In her twilight sleep, her dreams are coming to life in us, and many, many of us are spontaneously hearing her call in our hearts. Just as the billions of neurons in our brains link up synergistically, so shall we participate in the awakening of Gaia herself.
He refers to our "dark and troubled times.....The challenges we face are so vast and the politics of greed and corruption so complex that it will truly take a miracle to transform such global destruction.
But miracles are what our magick is all about. Our hope and intention is that these writings will inspire others to join us in this heroic mission of Earth Ministry, and that a new generation will feel the calling, and take up this path of service to all life, as champions of Gaia. Thus will our myths and magic manifest in reality in our daily lives, improving and blessing the world."
If you love Gaia as I do, I recommend adding this book to your library as well.

Doing Our Part to Heal the Earth
According to www.Songfacts.com, Michael Jackson said
"I remember writing Earth Song when I was in Austria, in a hotel. And I was feeling so much pain and so much suffering of the plight of the Planet Earth. And for me, this is Earth's Song, because I think nature is trying so hard to compensate for man's mismanagement of the Earth. And with the ecological unbalance going on, and a lot of the problems in the environment, I think earth feels the pain, and she has wounds, and it's about some of the joys of the planet as well. But this is my chance to pretty much let people hear the voice of the planet. And this is "Earth Song."
The world was shocked and saddened by the sudden death of Michael Jackson on June 25, 2009. That makes this song all the more poignant.

Our Mother Needs Us
When we Indians kill meat, we eat it all up.... When we build houses, we make little holes. When we burn grass for grasshoppers, we don't ruin things. We shake down acorns and pinenuts. We don't chop down the trees. ~Wintu Indian, quoted in Julian Burger, The Gaia Atlas of First Peoples, 1990

A Celebrity Wedding Dedicated to Gaia

It was a fairy tale wedding. An article in Long Island Bride and Groom magazine states:
"Their vows, written by Candice, and Tao readings reflected on the beauty of nature. They did the traditional breaking of the glass, but used a light bulb instead of a glass as part of their commitment to recycling and preserving the Earth. They also had a wine sharing ceremony dedicated to Gaia, the Earth spirit; and ended the wedding ceremony with a Cherokee blessing and a 20-dove release."
A dedication to Gaia is a great way to begin a marriage. Read more about it at the Long Island Bride and Groom website.

- A beautiful job on conveying a nice message. Mother Earth is very much alive. We do not give her to our children, we barrow her from them. Let us all treat her well and respect her while we live on earth and in the there-after. ~ You have a wonderful heart!
