I really appreciated the detailed explanation of the origin and circumstances of Mothering Day, as I did not know about that at all before.

Informative. I had heard of Mothering Sunday, but did not know of the origins and just assumed it had to do with one's mother. Thank you.

I had no idea of the origins of Mothering Sunday and it was good to see a traditional Simnel cake here too. An excellent look at a British holiday and I hope if it is something you celebrate that you have a lovely Mother's Day this Sunday.

How totally interesting. I recorded a so-beautiful poignant song named Mothering Sunday (I know it's poor form to leave links in guestbooks - if you search "mothering sunday" at amazon it's in the mp3 downloads). There also is a really cute mothering sunday song by John Roberts and Tony Barrand - they do it with a poem I can't remember but includes seeing the pancakes fall upon the ground (flipped no doubt by inexperienced kids trying to make breakfast for their moms). The whole thing is so sweet and so sad. My mother is long, long dead and I wish I could cook her pancakes. Thanks for the memories.

I like this name, "Mothering Sunday!" How about "Muttering Mondays!" ;)

I loved the story and the pics are beautiful. The recipe looks really good! It leaves out all the stuff I don't like in a fruit cake and keeps the ingredients I do like.
