Simple Mothers Day crafts are wonderful gifts to give to mothers and grandmothers. Personal and from the heart, each handmade gift is a keepsake that your mother will cherish.

Crafts made from handprints, footprints and photos are especially good to give as keepsake gifts. The personal touch that a handmade craft has is a one-of-a-kind gift that can never be replaced.

Making a gift can be very simple for small children, or as complex as you would like them to be. Don't be afraid to change materials, or to elaborate more on one of the crafts below. Use your imagination and you will truly have a one of a kind gift for Mothers Day.

Keepsake Handprint Craft for kids

Hand PrintA Mothers Day bouquet of handprints is perfect for one child or many. Even dad and the grandparents can add to this great family craft.

Have each family member trace their handprint, one or both hands, on coloured craft paper. If you have one child who wants to make this craft by herself, then have her create mulitple handprints.

Cut out each handprint and label it on the back with the name of the person and the date the handprint was traced.

Use popsicle sticks, or pipe cleaners as stalks by gluing or taping them to the back of each hand print.

Tie a bow around the bunch and give to mom or grandma for a wonderful and simple homemade Mothers Day craft.

**This craft can be personalized even more by tracing a hand print on white card or paper and painting the handprint or attaching a photo. Use your imagination.

Mothers Day Scrapbook Letter

Scrapbook album with a twist.

Buy a small 6 x 6 inch scrapbook and fill it with photos of mum with her children. Have the kids write (or dictate to you if they are too small to write) a letter to mum to show her how much they love her.

Small photo albums are great for quick and easy themed projects. Even if you have a lot of time to create a larger album, a small scrapbook album is great for mum to keep on her bedside table.

Count the number of pages in the album and then find a selection of photos. 12 pages = 12 photos.

Make a title page that says "Dear Mum" and include photos of the children who are writing the "letter".

On each page have the child write a single line or sentence across the page and find a photo that fits the sentence. Keep it light-hearted and fun, write about fun times out and lesson learned.

Include photos of mum with the kids, not just the children on their own. The purpose of this album is to show the time spent with the children and the wonderful memories they have had. This is also a great craft for Fathers Day or for Grandparents.

The last page will have "love from ...." and the children's names. If possible, add a group photo on the back page.

This type of craft will need supervision from an adult to keep the kids on track.

Remember, keep it simple, let the kids write and have fun with this one. Let it reflect their personality.

Homemade Bath Salts for Mum

A wonderful relaxing gift

Making homemade bath salts is pretty easy - my kids showed me how to do it.

Find a pretty glass jar, old candle jars that have glass lids are perfect.

Fill the jar up with Epsom salts.

Add a few drops of a wonderful essential oil such as lavender, jasmine or eucalyptus and shake to distribute the scent.

An optional step is to add a few drops of food colouring to make it look pretty.

Tie a colourful ribbon around the jar and you have an inexpensive thoughtful homemade gift for mum.

A quick last minute homemade gift for mum on Mothers Day

Write out some things that mum would love to get. Offers to do the dishes, have a shoulder rub, breakfast in bed and so on. If you can't think of anything or don't have time to make them, then just print out online Mothers Day coupons that have already been made for you.
