Where were these Mother's Day brunch recipes when my family needed them? A couple years ago, we were all set to hit a local restaurant (per tradition) with my sister-in-law and her family for Mother's Day brunch....and discovered that whoops! my hubby had booked it for the wrong week. Any chance of sneaking in with a party of 9? Uh, no.

So we moved the whole shebang at a moment's notice to our place, saving some money and having a fab time but missing out on the special dishes that help make Mother's Day brunch more memorable. Had we had a bit more time to plan, we could have matched, or even bested, a restaurant meal with Mother's Day brunch recipes like these....

Taking shortcuts doesn't mean I appreciate Mom any less -- it's just a way to get more hangout time with her :) Basic scrambles & bacon plus mimosas with some moderately priced champagne works fine, especially if I whip up waffles with my favorite mix. A touch of malt makes Stonewall Kitchen pancake & waffle mix soooo much better than the standard grocery brands. And I like to use our heart-shaped wafflemaker for special occasions. Nothing says I love you like sweet, buttery waffles that didn't pop out of a toaster!
