The Origin of Mother's Day 

Mother's Day was first proclaimed as a national holiday in 1914, and was designated by the Congress on the second Sunday in May. This holiday was originated by Anna M. Jarvis (1864-1948) in the United States to honor her mother's wish that someone would found a memorial mother's day since there were so many days of observance for men, but none for women. Anna M. Jarvis hoped Mother's Day would increase children's appreciation of their mothers, while the mother was still alive, and strengthen family bonds.
