Handprints
This one is for those of you with little ones. We're going to create an art project for mom, with her child's handprints as the work of art, and a quote that is sure to warm mom's heart and make her smile all day. What you'll need:
White paper or your favorite color of construction paper
Acrylic Paint in a color different from the construction paper
scissors
Pencil Crayons, Markers, or Crayons
What to do:
This one is really quite easy. The first thing we want to do is take a piece of that construction paper (any card stock works as well), and cut out two small hearts, roughly 1 inch in length. Use the picture provided above as a rough guide as to what we're doing, so you can get the size right according to the size of your child's hands.
Once we have the hearts cut out, we need to ready the paper that the art project will be going onto.
The page will say the following:
Dear Mommy,
Just as my little hands will get bigger
My love for you will grow and grow
Happy Mother's Day

[Your Child's Name]
You have the choice to open up a word processing program and printing out the quote on your paper, or you can use your markers, pencil crayons or crayons and write it by hand.
Finally, we want the handprints. Do each hand one at a time. First, we'll start with the left hand. Start by putting one of the two hearts we'd cut out down on the paper, where you want the handprint centered, somewhere in the bottom half of the piece of paper.
Next, pour out some of the acrylic paint into an aluminum pie plate. You can either use a brush and apply paint to your child's palm and fingers that way, or you can have them place their hand, palm down into the paint. These will cause two different looks to the handprint: either neat and sharp, or more childlike and "wet-looking". Both looks are great.
So, once you've got paint on your child's hand, place a handprint right over the heart, so the heart is centered on your child's palm. When you pull the hand away, as well as the heart cutout, you will see your child's handprint in whatever color you chose, with a heart in the middle with no color, as shown above.
Repeat with the right hand, and allow to dry. Once dry, you can frame it, and deliver your work of art to mom with her breakfast in bed.
Check out the picture below for what the finished product should look like.

Breakfast in Bed
Mom needs a day off too. Whether she works all day and comes home and cooks and cleans, or if she's a stay-at-home mom, taking care of you full-time, she is a busy woman. How better to say thank you than to give her breakfast in bed?
Here are a couple of things you might need to serve a great breakfast in bed for your mom.

- I made my mom a craft for Mother's Day when I was 8 and she said, "what's this garbage?" Ever since she tells me exactly what to buy her for mom's day. She may be pushy, but I still love that old bag of bones. Excellent lens for people with nicer moms.
