Mothers Day Around the World

Mother's Day in England is known as Mothering Sunday, the origins date to centuries ago when it was thought important for church goers to visit their home (mother) church once a year.

In Ireland, Mothers Day is not celebrated on same day as in US. Mothers Day in Ireland takes place on the fourth Sunday of Lent. This corresponds to the day on which Mothers Day or Mothering Sunday is celebrated in UK, a close neighbor of Ireland.

Mother's day Celebrations in Spain is more religious, people remember the Virgin Mary on December 8. Children honour their own mothers on this day as well.

Mother's day Celebrations at Yugoslavia is observed in December. The children sneak into their moms bedroom and then tie her up. When she wakes up she has to promise to give the kids presents that she has hidden to get untied.

In Sweden they sell small flowers before Mother's Day and use the money collected from these flowers to send the moms with many children on vacation somewhere.

Mothers day - inspiring story about mother

Go and visit your Mom while you still can!

A man stopped at a flower shop to order some flowers to be wired to his mother who lived two hundred kilometres away.
As he got out of his car he noticed a young girl sitting outside crying.
He asked her what was wrong and she answered, "I wanted to buy a red rose for my mother.
But I only have eighty cents and a rose costs three dollars."
The man smiled and said, "Come on in with me. I'll buy you a rose."
He bought the little girl her rose and ordered his own mother's flowers.
As they were leaving he offered the girl a ride home.
She said, "Yes, please! You can take me to my mother."
She directed him to a cemetery, where she placed the rose on a freshly dug grave.
The man returned to the flower shop, cancelled the order, picked up a big buch of flowers and drove the two hundred kilometres to his mother's house.
