  • dthonstad Sep 13, 2011 @ 3:17 pm | delete
Thanks for writing and sharing this. I have been pretty rutterized lately. It's like a bad bowling game where every ball you throw ends up in the gutter. Ugh... Your lens helped me to strategize some ways to get out of the gutter! Part of it is just moving... so I am going to move in a different direction and stop being stuck. I too want to write and be remarkable. I like using that word... I think all people are remarkable, but some people just never find their remarkable selves. So the key for me is rediscovery of myself. Thanks!
  • Showpup Aug 27, 2011 @ 9:33 am | delete
Enjoyed my time spent on this lens. Thanks for sharing your inspirations.
  • NYtoSCimjustme Aug 26, 2011 @ 2:29 am | delete
This may be one of the / or THE best written lens I've come across yet. I too can relate - for my 'writing' notions have been put up on the shelf in a closet for years. I also read Stephen King's 'On Writing' and loved it... now I'm wondering - where is that book? Thank You for sharing such and inspirational / motivational lens.
  • vbright105 Aug 26, 2011 @ 12:22 am | delete
I had to read this again. It's very inspirational. Thanks
  • CCGAL Aug 25, 2011 @ 11:50 pm | delete
Great video clip of Stephen King. I've been thinking a lot about some of the concepts you've dealt with here, so it felt nice to know that I'm not out in the ozone alone in these thoughts. Thanks for sharing this part of yourself with me. Much appreciated, this lens.
  • vbright105 Aug 14, 2011 @ 3:58 pm | delete

I'm glad you got your groove back, although I don't think you ever really lost it. I know what it's like to get into a funk, though, and I love your attitude and how you got yourself back on track. *Blessed by an angel on the Back to School Bus Trip*

That is such an interesting phrase and you have used it very creatively and effectively. You have a novel style and I love your way of writing and explaining things with examples.
  • Spook Jan 22, 2011 @ 5:45 am | delete
I found this exceptional and for the most part it reminded me, of me. However I have yet to transcend the 'self doubt' part. You have a gift.
  • darciefrench Jan 12, 2011 @ 9:43 pm | delete
I love Stephen King too, and from what I've read from Seth Godin's blog, we're in good hands on squidoo. This is an inspirational lens that I can relate too, thanks -:)

  • totally_radically_awesome Dec 13, 2010 @ 12:00 am | delete
Writing is a special hobby of mine that is one of the things or perhaps only things that greatly improves me as a person, writing full fanfiction novels, articles, journalizing, poetry, lists and you thoughts that is something that improves your writing. I think though to write you don't have to feel like you want to write. Just write. Sometimes just writing something stupidly amusing gets me in the mood, but do we really need to be in the mood to write? Cannot we just wing it?

In the National Writing Month I finished my first originally written practice 50, 000 page novel and it felt great. It feels great just to wing it.
  • haikuwedding Dec 10, 2010 @ 12:30 am | delete

  • poddys Dec 4, 2010 @ 2:38 am | delete
Excellent lens, and I also get depressed and loose my groove, especially when the pressure of all the things I want to do but don't have time for weigh heavily on my mind. Loved the examples you gave, Carrie was a great movie, and Phenomenon was exceptional too. Keep on the right path, don't let life get you down, and things will work out in the end. At least that's what I keep trying to tell myself. This has for us been a year of wonderful highs and also horrible lows. I am hoping as it comes to a close that good news is just around the corner. Wishing you the same.
  • grannysage Dec 4, 2010 @ 2:06 am | delete
I mentioned above that this lens was for me, to motivate myself when I get discouraged or too hard on myself. The past few weeks have been like that and it seemed like the Muse had found another place to live. So I popped back in to read it again, and am glad to report that I hear the footsteps of the Muse walking up the driveway.

"?I would especially like to recourt the Muse of poetry, who ran off with the mailman four years ago, and drops me only a scribbled postcard from time to time.? John Updike

As an introvert, as well as a grump and a failure, I love this lens. Thanks for stopping by and commenting on some of mine. I especially like LeGuin's comment on introverts, so true.

It's nice to know I'm not the only one to struggle to find a point or purpose to it all at times.
  • SereneSea Sep 13, 2010 @ 11:57 pm | delete
Beautiful lens that inspires us to get back to the groove. While many of us feel the negative thoughts to be overwhelming, it is important to get rid of them. The negative vibrations are like spiraling groove that ends up in nothing. Well written lens, I really loved reading it.
  • Irenemaria Sep 12, 2010 @ 1:46 pm | delete
You have written so many of my own thoughts! I have been reading your lens slowly and enjoyed the positive tone!

I read this awesome lens the other night as I was coming over for a visit to thank you for your visit to my lens. It was late, like tonight, and my get up and go... had got up and went. Had to come back to tell you that this is one of the best lens I have read and I'm LRing it into my learning lens. What I like about it is that it is real & inspiring in that it identified that you reached that moment in time which all of us who enjoy writing want to experience...There's no put on here for you are rejoicing in the revelation that you underwent an epiphany and that empowered a renaissance that led you to understand that it is YOU who you must write for... and not someone else. You can feel the confidence oozing out of each word after that and the doubts falling away like the leaves from oak tree in mid-November. That made me want to go read your other lenses, because I know you have something to say and I like the way you said it on this one. I'll get to them when I can and I think I'll be able to tell the before... and the after Granny got her groove back.
  • purplelady Feb 5, 2010 @ 12:29 pm | delete
Wow! I didn't count the number of times while ready this lens that I thought to myself, "Hey, I wanted to say that."; but I can assure you they were many. I got to your lenses by checking out your LOTD about David McCallum (also love that show and Ducky-although I am partial to Abbie).
Congratulations on your LOTD, you deserve it. However, I would like to put in a plug for this lens to be a LOTD. I loved it! 5 grooves, a couple of lensrolls, a bird and a face and a huge Fave.
Great job with the use of purple.

I want to take a moment to thank everyone who took the time to read this lens and leave a comment. Knowing that someone derived some little bit of inspiration or hope from something I wrote is what keeps me writing. And as I said, I keep coming back to it myself, remind myself to keep on keeping on!
  • Wednesday_Elf Dec 29, 2009 @ 9:25 am | delete
I don't think I have enough 'words' to describe how much this lens 'spoke' to me. The thoughts you've shared here have had a powerful influence on my own thoughts and feelings. I especially like this quote "I've come to believe that each of us has a personal calling that's as unique as a fingerprint - and that the best way to succeed is to discover what you love and then find a way to offer it to others in the form of service, working hard, and also allowing the energy of the universe to lead you." and am sending it to my son. It's exactly what he needs to hear at this point in his life. Thank you for this marvelous lens.

Hi Granny--I just bought "Writing Spirit" from this lens!

  • Joan4 Dec 8, 2009 @ 9:47 pm | delete
This is very motivational writing-- and I am thrilled you got your groove back! one of the most important lessons I learned as a beginner at Squidoo was that it does not have to be perfect -- good enough is good enough. I think Seth Godin said that. Sometimes I find myself working on lenses from two years ago -- looking back I can see so many things I can improve!
PS - when I get stuck, I just step back for a while and live a little life before I try writing again. It usually helps! lol
  • OhMe Dec 8, 2009 @ 9:20 pm | delete
Bless your heart and your lens, Granny and I hope you stay in the groove. Great quotes and wonderful thought provoking writing!

Such an interesting read. You've inspired me once again and the Seth video was right on the money. I know you are proud to have your 20th lens but what I see as even more important is that you have 20 quality lenses that reflect your unique personality. Keep writing, grannysage! I for one will definitely keep reading.

Well, right now I am thinking that it is a true pleasure to read the words of a writer about writing. You wrote this for yourself, I know, but you taught me something about myself along the way - and I suspect you'll do the same for others. Thank you for inviting me to read this lens.
