The Best of Both Worlds.
Do you love motorcycling and camping? Why not combine both of your interests, into a motorcycling camping trip? This type of camping trip provides the best of both worlds. Traveling on your motorcycle allows you to enjoy the thrill and freedom of zipping down a country road. In between your motorcycling, you can relax and get back to nature, through camping.
4 Tips for your motorcycle camping trip.
However, camping via a motorcycle is quite different from camping via an automobile. Here are some tips that can help to maximize your enjoyment:
1. Minimize and organize what you pack
As a general rule, only pack what you absolutely need, into your motorcycle luggage. Overloading your motorcycle could cause difficulty maintaining your bike's balance and maneuvering it on the road.
In terms of clothing and gear, dress in layers. Outdoor temperatures can vary greatly on the road, so this approach will allow you to adapt well. Clothing should provide sufficient warmth and ventilation. Also, wear motorcycle gear that is sturdy, yet comfy. That includes motorcycle helmets, jackets, riding pants, gloves, and boots.
For cooking, convenience is the name of the game. Bring as many instant foods as you can. If you cannot live without a stove, secure a portable model onto your motorcycle. Other cooking and dining essentials include:
-Cups
-Forks
-Knives
-Pans
-Plates
-Pots
-Spoons
Of course, make sure to bring a tent, sleeping bag, and mattress (optional).
2. Pack properly
How do you get all your camping stuff onto your motorcycle? As a general rule, pack items as nearby as possible to the motorcycle's center of gravity. Place raingear at the top of whichever container you place it in, so you can access it quickly. Next, place smaller items, such as your first-aid kit, motorcycle tool-kit, toiletries, etc. into your motorcycle saddlebags.
Take special precautions with your tent, mattress, and sleeping bag. Although it may seem illogical, do not fold or roll up your sleeping bag and tent. Simply stuff them into a compression bag, and then air them out when you get home. Place the tent poles alongside the tent or mattress.
3. Search for an ideal camping ground
How do you find the best campground for you and your motorcycle? It depends what your preferences are. Some campgrounds provide designated areas for motorcyclists. Keep in mind that these areas are mainly designed for groups, and can be quite boisterous. However, if that is your cup of tea, then go for it!
4. Secure your motorcycle well at the campsite
Without exception, always park your motorcycle properly. Lock your motorcycle to a secure object. Additionally, make sure to use a solid chain lock. An alternative option is to lock two motorcycles together. You can use special plastic plates underneath your motorcycle's wheels, when the ground is spongy. When the ground is particularly wet, lean one handlebar against a tree.
Motorcycle camping trips provides a great way to enjoy the Great Outdoors. Following some basic guidelines before and during the trip, can make it even greater!
