The Blog For Biker Women

My blog is dedicated to women who ride motorcycles. There are more and more women deciding to take the driver's seat on motorcycles. Most women who ride have been educated, and have a great knowledge of their machine and how to operate it. If you are thinking about buying a motorcycle and do not have much experience except riding as a passenger, then I strongly suggest you learn and educate yourself about motorcycles. I can help you do this!

Deciding To Take The Driver's Seat

Your First Step

Welcome to my blog dedicated to women motorcyclists. There are more and more women getting behind the handlebars and taking control of their own motorcycle. Riding and driving motorcycles can be exciting, but it can also be very dangerous. If you are interested in buying a motorcycle and learning to ride I would urge you to take a rider's course first.

I have been riding motorcycles since I was a child, but when I wanted to get a road motorcycle it kind of scared me. I knew I needed to know more than knowing how to use a clutch and switch gears. You need to have knowledge of your motorcycle and how to handle road conditions.

My suggestion is to get in contact with your local Community College or motorcycle store and check into courses for beginning riders. Even though I had been riding for years, I still learned a lot that I didn't know. And I'm still learning!

How Embarrassing!

Laying it down

Today was a great day for riding in North Carolina. I guess some novice riders were out trying to learn how to ride.
I would like to say first and foremost... Do not buy a bigger bike than you need when starting out. You can always sell or trade your motorcycle to upgrade to a bigger bike when you are ready to move up. Today my sister and brother-in-law were behind 3 motorcyclists - 2 which were women. Well, the first biker took off from the intersection (this was a rural area) and crossed the street. The other 2 were just sitting there. Apparently the one lady was still learning to ride because she walked the bike up to the stop sign. They finally took off and made it to the next stop sign. My sister said her motorcycle was BIG & looked BRAND NEW. All of a sudden...she dropped it!!! The other lady had to get off her bike and help the other one get her's off the road!
Ladies, please listen to me! I know the bigger bikes are more attractive and cool, but do not start out on something that is too heavy or big for you. You CAN eventually work your way up to the motorcycle of your dreams, but don't make the mistake of buying something that you can't learn on because even the expert rider and motorcyclists who have been riding for years have bad moments on the road. It's better to buy something that's not too expensive and not too heavy starting out because you won't feel as bad if something like this happens to you. Be safe!

Down It Goes

The other day I was on my to an appointment for which I was running late! There was a guy on a motorcycle behind me that was out enjoying himself on this perfect riding Friday. When we got to the end of this road we were on, we were both going to take a right at the top of the hill. I was in my truck. When I pulled out and went, he was going to try to keep rolling and make his turn. When I looked in my rear view mirror it looked like he stalled it and down it went. I was so embarrassed for him! And I couldn't stop because I was running late, but the Fire Dept was right there and plus this truck was stopping. If we had been out somewhere where no one was around and there was no traffic I would have stopped and helped him. I have never had to pick up a bike before, so I may not have even been any help if I had stopped! I think it would be a good idea to practice picking up a motorcycle just in case you ever drop it or lay it down. I still feel bad for him.
